My girl was assessed by KKH psychologist two months ago. The total package was 3 hour. Two hours is assessment by the psychologist with the child + interview with the parents. Most of the two hours were mainly interview with the parents while the psychologist would also observe the kid at the same time.

As my girl is approaching 4 yrs old soon, hence the stuffs involved in the assessment might not be applicable to your kid since your kid is only 19mth old. The room was quite kid’s friendly with some toys and the psychologist would observe how the kid was playing with the toys and some pretend toys.

I went through Polyclinic to ask for referrel letter to see KKH CDU on Jan this year. My girl went for the psychologist test on Aug this year. So its ~7mths+ of waiting time.

Whoa!! Yr girl progress so dramatically !

I'm so happy for u. I can't hardly wait my son start rainbow.

I still remember u ever told me tat yr girl eye contact still very poor few months back..

When did she start to \"out\" or break through this much?

My son love looking at himself n observe his all kinds of expression n make funny face .
Her eye contact is still poor as compared to her peers. However it has been improving slowly since then. Need to constantly remind her whenever she is requesting things, talking to us etc.

She has been improving slowly since those therapies, so can't really pin point exactly when did she start to break through.

I believe that whichever EIPIC you son goes, it will benefit him. Hence don't think that your son will be in a disadvantage if he couldn't go to ARC. All EIPIC are more or less the same and they are all equally professional and good. Your boy will surely blosom and improve very fast as he is a very high functioning and smart boy 😄

Yes, my son knows the existence of his peers but not interested. He can say hello to his classmates because he has been trained but I m still happy that he is applying what he was taught. He has never approach any other kid indicating he wants to play with them including his sister. When the sister talks to him, he also doesn’t respond, I hv to tell him to respond. So hopefully with constant training and reminder, he will get it soon.

              Lavendary,
My son is also turning 4 in another few mths. Sometimes, I wish time doesn’t pass so soon so that he has more time to learn.

Just curious, what kind of IQ test did the psychologist do on your son? Is the fees still the same? I also got two appointments with KKH psychologist. First appointment is the 2hrs assessment, 2nd appt is around 1mth later with the psychologist on the assessment outcome.

The 7pgs of KKH psychologist report is quite useless. It never indicate what actions items to address the deficits. It's a complete waste of my time and money

Did you request for the IQ test or the IQ test comes along by default with the 3hr assessment package?

Mine is see kkh PD for initial assessment. Just a short interview. She didn't even talk to my kid. Then referred to kkh psychologist for assessment. This one took 3.5 hrs incl IQ test. After that see kkh PD again for report from psychologist.

The report shares about the observations, strengths and weaknesses and what issues he may face in sch, that he is suitable for mainstream sch and also exemption from Chinese. No IQ score coz too varied. so they did a more detailed analysis of his IQ scores instead. Mine is much older when he did the test so I suppose it's more comprehensive than those who did at a younger age.

During the assessment, the psychologist explained to me every time she did something with my boy and her observations. Like she will purposely put the toy car high up and wait for him to ask for help which he didn't. Instead he tried to get it all by himself. She also did pretend play with him. Carried a conversation with him etc. He could talk to her but didn't know how to end a conversation. His mummy doll cooked like 20 times throughout the pretend play and he didn't know how to continue the story. A bit like a spoilt DVD which got stuck at a certain scene. Lol.

Meeting the kkh CDU PD is really a waste of time in IMO. But the assessment is fine.

For me, the value in going to the NUH CDU paed is that I can bring up any health concerns during the bi-annual review and she would refer us to the relevant specialists in NUH. This allows us to have faster and more convenient access to the medical services at subsidized rates.

Hi Double E, nugget and helplessmum

Thanks for the prompt replies! May I ask if you ladies remember what was involved during the assessment at kkh cdu? And also what therapy/lessons are involved at the eipic centres?

I think aside from her speech and motor delays, some autistic signs are that she doesn't point to indicate what she wants and doesn't respond to her name. It is too early to diagnose definitively though so in the meantime we're going to start therapy first

                        Thanks in advance again!
qui vive, my doter is 5 yo and she was diagnosed at 3 yo. Thought to share some information based on the questions you asked.

At that time we did everything through private route. We approached a private medical center who has a PD who specializes in child development, and based on her suspicion, she referred us to the in-house psychologist under the same medical centre for assessment. At the same time, the medical centre offered in-house ST and OT so we started our doter on these support programs while we waited.

Within a month or so we got to see the psychologist. Her assessment was similar to what the other mummies describe - interview with parents and some activities with the child. After that she confirmed the diagnosis and wrote a letter to CEL for referral to an EIPIC centre. We were asked which EIPIC center we preferred so before that we visited a few to decide on one. We were also given a choice on how many days of therapy at EIPIC centre to place our child on. We were told the waiting time for that particular EIPIC center was 6 months.

We were lucky cos the EIPIC center was opening up new classes and we got a slot after about 2-3 months' wait. All in all from the time we first saw PD on this issue to entry into EIPIC it took us about 5 months or so. In the meantime we had ongoing ST and OT for my doter. For that whole exercise I went through the private route, and felt that things moved faster. But of course it burnt big hole in pocket.

My doter started off with a 2-hour program at EIPIC and since she was young then, the focus was on behavioral and sensory management. Activities included circle time, water play, paint (a form of sensory play), coloring, gross and fine motor activities. There is also ST and OT offered at the EIPIC center. The EIPIC team comprises of the teacher, social worker, ST and OT who meet up with parents once every 6 months to discuss the progress of the child. Each child is given an individual education plan (IEP) which specifies the goals for the child within the 6 month period.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have questions.
