nuggest, those too are my worries… haiz…
the when my son at rainbow, when my son say he want somthing, they teacher ignore him… but i thought at least they mus acknowledge his request and say cannot take not or wat , rather then jus ignore his request, like this how to encourage my son to talk more. cuz when he talk pp ignore mean no effect then what for i talk…
so strange they seems like dun really bother about my son interact & speech they jus focus wat he can do like on sit, threading , climbing. all these my son no issue, first then u cant expect him to be Good Boy and sit there throughout to do works mah… especially he still duno what is going on and wat kind of system are in place… give him few days he sure noe what come next and what to expect…
then immediately teacher say, why dun u give me a photo of me, to say Mother then when time to go home, i show him mummy’s photo to show that is going to see Mummy soon?? Gosh. cnat they simply say," time to go home & see mummy" he understand what is "go home" what is "see mummy" then why mus show him my picture? -
Any parents with P4 kids in mainstream school? She is HFA. Trying to find friends for playdates for Dd1 as she has no friends and felt that the girls does not like her.

Don't worry don't worry. I had the same worries before but it was resolved easily. The teacher will send another kid in with my boy when he went toilet. Think now he can go by himself and return back to class already. He also walked around for a while, but now better. He once ran out of the classroom and the teacher had to chase after him to get him back. lots of embarrassing moments but they were resolved one by one. Apparently, it's not just our kids who walk around. Even NT kids walk around in class! I pack food for him so he doesn't need to rush to queue. Anyway, school canteen food is horrible. I rather he don't eat those food there. Yup, my son has lost a lot of stationary, books and shoes! Didn't lose his school bag though. Just remember to label everything so that even if they are lost, there's a chance of getting them back.Mashy,
tell you frankly, I am super duper worry!!! I worry about him standing up in the classroom and walk about, I worry about him get missing in school, I worry about he go toilet already dun never go back to class, I worry about he dunno how to buy food and go hungry during recess time. I worry about him losing his pencils, books and even school bag, I worry about him being bullied by other students... Think I super kan cheong! *I must remind myself to breathe*
Yup But I do agree with you about the \"building foundation\" part. I just hope it will pan out well for him. Now must start practicing with him.
My son like yours doesn't know how to express himself. What we do is we usually ask the question then we answer it ourselves. Then through there, he will try to follow. Like we asked, \"why the evil troll hide under the bridge?\", then we answer \"because he is waiting for the billy goat to cross the bridge\"... Soon he will learn to answer as well.
So don't worry. You will find a solution when you meet the problem. -
Did I tell u gals before?
Apparently the autism report doesn’t expire according to the doctor. only ADHD, dyslexia, etc will expire. So don’t throw away. It can be used for language exemption. My son’s dr told me not to help him with his Chinese and let him fail. Then it will form greater grounds for exemption. -
To help motivate my doter in her handwriting, I sometimes create ad hoc worksheets for her to fill in the blanks. It could be words related to her favourite topic n with letters that I want to focus on. She still can’t spell quite a number of words so I will spell n she writes. Because she sight reads, she is able to see the value of what she has written to form words n sentences, and that keeps her motivated. That plus a lot of encouragement n praise when she does well.
I find that this is a better approach than getting her to do repetitive copying of letters. She is a lot more motivated now n her handwriting has improved a lot. -

ImMeemee, thats the next step I am going to try as well. But I want him to master the basic letters first. Yup I realise praising is very important. After every letter he wrote, he will look at me for praise. Your dd is same age as my son right? K2 this year? Will she be going for any IQ test?To help motivate my doter in her handwriting, I sometimes create ad hoc worksheets for her to fill in the blanks. I think the teachers are still accessing your son. Once they know that your son speech and cognitive level is at a higher level, they will do the adjustment accordingly.nuggest, those too are my worries... haiz..

After accessing your son, they will come out with Individualized Education Plan (IEP), maybe now you can tell them about which areas you want your son to improve on. Then work towards that goal with the teacher. Every term they will tackle different areas. So if speech in your area of concern, then do highlight to them.
But give them time, its not a quick fix solution. I saw improvement in my son only after 6 months in EIPIC.
Is your son in any mainstream CC now? It will be good if you can continue to let him go for any mainstream classes/activities so he will be able to apply what he learn from EIPIC in mainstream environment as well. -

Yes, she is going to be 6yo this year. Due for IQ assessment end of Feb at KKH.

As for the CDU not having access to support services to Rehab, I wrote in to ask for a review, and they have granted me appointments for their support services under Rehab.
Sometimes as mothers of special needs children I find that we need to fight harder for our kids. And nowadays I am very vigilant when it comes to such things. Never leave to chance and always try.
