Hi belachanbabe
Same for my son as well. He did not get selected for the first batch of students for PL 2014 intake.
They told me that he is still under review.
Anyone has an idea what that means? Is this something like a wait list or reserve list? -
Any reason why your boys are not selected?
I can totally understand your sense of lost. But if this time can’t get in, can apply again? Or it could be a case of not enough vacancy? -

CONGRATULATIONS, ImMeeMee. :snuggles:Yes mummies, after the arduous wait we have finally been accepted into PL. I have had more than 50% confidence that we will get in but when the news came it still brought a lot of relief. And joy. And to a certain extent apprehension.
Its the beginning of a new journey, and I hope it will bring along new discoveries, new achievements. Yes, whether PL or mainstream, there will be different ups and downs. Paths may be different, but the love and patience and courage that we have for our ASD child always will be the same.
Cheers to every parent of a ASD child at this thread. -

Sorry to hear that we r in the same boat, also got the same 'still under review' spiel from them. I interpret it as 'wait to see who reject the offer from the first batch'Hi belachanbabe

Thanks Arielmermaid for the information. Looks like I should not worry too much and let things take its course.
ImMeeMee,
My son is 7 this years, and he's in P1 Foundation. He is not strong academically, so being in foundation is good cos he has one more year to catch up. Actually, there's nothing much to take note of; they seem to be very well taken care of and the teachers and principal are very experienced with handling them. We have Parent Communication Night every quarter- during these events, the school updates the parents on the staff movement, the activities planned for the kids, etc.; there are also presentations by the children, experienced psychologists, and even adults with autism. So far, there has been one official review with the class teachers; however, if you intend to pick your child up after school, the teachers would talk to you briefly when they bring your child to you. My son is on the school bus, so I don't really get to see the teachers that often. But they'd usually reply to my emails promptly or call me if they have any updates, concerns, etc.
Hope the above helps.
Cheers
P/s. I came across this website and i found it very useful as a guide for choosing the school.

Sorry to hear about this.
Just to share, there were a few children in my doter's EIPIC school who were not selected during the first round last year. While the children were cognitively capable under normal circumstances, they could not perform during the assessment itself, understandably based on their nature. Eventually the school assessors were invited to the EIPIC school to observe how the children perform under normal circumstances, and I think some of them got in through this route.
You may like to find out the reason for the child not being selected and see what else could be done.
Hope the above information helps. -
Path light school fees is $500 per month
Yup, normal mainstream school fee cost abt $10 or less per month. Cos our kids are special needs, we need to pay more just for them to go into special school.
Why do i feel like I am being penalized for having a special needs kid. :imdrowning:
Actually it's because they are under MCYS or I dunno what is the new ministry called whereas mainstream schools are under MOE. They have completely different budget. MOE has a lot of money to spend so they can pay for a lot of things. Special needs schools depends on mainly donors and some help from mcys. That is why u need to pay more for school fees. And very often, they also get run down sch buildings that have been vacated by MOE schools. pathlight is e only one I think that gets a new building.
Allow my 5 cents worth of thoughts here. If the budget comes from MOE for those special needs edu and those nursery and kindergarten edu, it will be mandatory for govt to support those expenses as the basic rights for everyone in Singapore is not to be deprived of an education. Classifying pathlight, autism centers and other educational services into MCYS will not warrant such obligation of subsidies. As said, those are not considered \"basic rights to schooling\". So, such segregation of \"basic education\" and rights to it do not exist in other countries.
Thanks. -

Yes precisely. In UK, Australia and US, kids with special needs attend special school for free. FREE! Govt keep talking about closing the social safety net, yet its all just talking.

What will happen to those adults with special needs esp those high functioning but disable physically or mentally adults who have problems adjusting to the society, no matter how well prepared these special needs are, they will never be accepted by our society. Maybe a lucky one or two might excel but majority of them will not be given a fair chance like those normal people in terms of career opportunities and advancement. Sad but true fact we need to accept.
Its the society awareness and stigmatization we need to work on. Now all efforts are just one sided. We getting our kids ready for the society. But will the society be ready for them???
