Desertwind and tyeogh. You guys are really strong and cool about the whole concert participation thingy, I would have strongly told off the principal already.
Hi belachanbabe,
Thanks, and enjoy your kids' year-end concert!
BTW, my boy did go up nicely to the stage to collect his K2 graduation certificate presented by his principal! He was prep for it and went up nicely. But in front of the large crowd on the stage for photo taking, he was very shy as well. The whole crowd especially his classmates' parents cheered and clapped so loudly for him that we were quite touched. His classmates and their parents were really very nice and supportive of him! -

Hi, there are about 6 (or 7) classes of P1 with class-size about 8-12 students. Therefore I got the same mathematics as tyeogh ie. about 70 P1 vacancies.Pathlight - How many p1 classes are there ?
Does anyone know whether pathlight give any priority ?
Ie. does pathlight prefer to accept / take in those that enter straight from kindergarten k2 rightaway, or also give equal fair chance to those kids who had tried mainstream p1 before, but find it not suitable, not conducive ?
Any pathlight parents around ?
As I understand from the staff, it is by QUEUING. Those who applied first with full complete set of documents will be processed first. The paperwork can be killing ie. take months to complete (especially psychological report) therefore parents who are interested please prep. early. At least one year ahead start to gather all the reports and test! After they completed the paper/document assessments, they then can call the shortlisted kids up for \"interview\" (sorry I don't know what is the correct term to use). They then make an offer to kids whom they deem as suitable for admission to Pathlight.
Parents have two weeks to decide whether they want to take up the offer.
If they offer P1 Foundation cirriculum and parent don't want, parent can negotiate for P1 Standard for eg. If a parent reject, the offer goes to the next qualified kid in line. Therefore, QUEUE early! By then, I mean submit all complete docs. to PL asap for their assessment. Process take long time.
PL will keep telling you submission of application does not mean you will be admitted or be offered a place. There is a high chance of rejection due to whatever reasons. Therefore, must also apply for mainstream primary school in the meantime. When PL gives you an offer, then you choose ultimately which one you want to take up.
I hope to share more in due time should I have more information.
This is defintely more tough then deciding which childcare centre or kindergarten to go to!

But as a parent, if I feel my son is up to it, I feel the school should give him a chance. We have to be thick skin, and keep fighting for our child. They are just different, not less.
Fully agree, nugget! :hi5: -

My DS is in Pathlight P4. I'm not too sure exactly how many P1 classes are there now as the school introduces P1 Foundation classes this year instead of previously Preparatory classes, so I presume should be more than 10 classes?Pathlight -

From what I see, the acceptance of the mainstream transferring in pupils is not really that many, as compared to those who started right from P1. When my DS was promoted to P1 from PP, in that year think only 2 new students joined in the P1 cohort. In P2 there were 3 new mainstream transferred in students. In P3 there was only 1 new student. This year there are 9 new pupils transferring in from mainstream joining the P4 cohort. Seems to me that the number of mainstream transferring in pupils is higher in upper primary...
Have talked to a few parents of these new students, the reasons of transfer mainly being that their kids can't cope in mainstream setting and also they got bullied in school. Having an older NT girl myself and been through the life of mainstream primary school, have seen too many incidences of those sweet cutie angels in lower primary some how evolved to become devils in upper primary... Maybe that's the reason why mainstream pupils transferring to Pathlight is much higher in upper primary than lower primary...? Just my assumption. -
