      Hi specialboymum,

Same here, i’m trying to keep open mind towards other alternative treatments so long that they do not pose any harm to my girl. Yes, agree, these alternatives treatments are all very expensive and the normal therapies are already killing us financially.

There are all kinds of pp in this world. U will be facing a lot of them in time to come, so u need to be strong to shrug them off.

Recently, someone in the ks forum said that many kids are sent for diagnosis of autism because the parents want to find an excuse for bad behaviour and it is actually due to bad parenting. Really wanna bash that fellow’s head. People like this will only understand when they have a special needs child and not make such snide remarks.

            Hang in there!

have any one here been to LeoMagan?

Are they good? do they have 1 to 1? how effective are they?

is their place or environment friendly?
              Hi helplessmum

My son is with LeoMagan now. They do have 1:1, but it is charge at slightly higher cost. Usually, Magan will assess your child and will recommend if he is suitable to be in a group or not. The group setting does benefit my son with his current stage of language development. Magan is very experience but she may be a little impatient sometimes.

              Re: alternate treatment.

There are some DAN doctors in singapore, e.g Dr Erwin Kay, by the way, he was charged/fined by SMC for using these alternate method to treat patients. Nowadays he will have a disclaimer in all his correspondence that the methods are not evidence based medicine...
I contacted him before, but I don't think have the money nor perseverance to go through the program.. so I just do the minimum he suggested, i.e fish oil..

What is DAN ? If huge cost I can't .
DAN stands for \"Defeat Autism Now\". It's an organisation that has activities and experts to advice parents what to do. There are some doctors (very small group, i believe) who are trained in the DAN protocol (or method). I'm not sure who are the doctors here as I don't go to them)

It's ok if you do not see a DAN doctor. there are many other ways to help your son. Maybe for a start, you can give him multi-vitamins and supplements like calcium and magnesium, and fish oil. As he is very young, he may not be able to swallow pills or capsules so buy the liquid type. U can go to the pharmacy (Watson or Guardian) to get them.

For a start, maybe let your son go to the speech therapists or OT at KKH or Health Promotion Board. They are just as good. If you have polyclinic referral, the costs are heavily subsidised. So it makes it more affordable. Don't have to go to a private SLT or OT for the time being.

One disadvantage is the long waiting time at KKH or HPB. But even with the long waiting time, at least they will eventually see your child and help him.

Don't worry too much about what toys to get in Toys R Us, especially if you can't find selected ones.

Some toys that you can introduce your child can be bought at our markets or Fairprice. For example, those \"masak masak\" cooking set, ball (which you can throw/ roll to your son and he throws/ rolls them back to u), read simple story books, playdoh, playground (this is really one of the best and free therapy tool).

As for the puzzles, you and your husband can take turns to play and talk to you child, help him to fix the puzzles together.
