Hi Wassant,
Which area do you stay in? -
Hi Nugget,
My initial objective for the SLT is for my son to have more words. But having words and having spontaneous functional speech is 2 different things altogether. That was the reason why I have 2 speech therapists to work on my son. 1 focuses more on oral motor strengthening and proper articulation of sounds while the other works on functional speech (thru’ play then ask my son to request). My son after a few months of SLT now have more than 100+ words but his so-called spontaneous functional speech is still at its infancy stage as he only started ‘talking’ 5 weeks ago. Now I am at a loss which teacher to drop (or whether to drop at all…).
Thanks for your advice, me must think through carefully. Easy to drop but if want to go back, must q up again! -

If I have to choose between the 2, I will choose proper articulation and oral motor strengthening. Coz if he can't articulate properly, what's the point of functional speech? It frustrated my son tremendously when we couldn't understand what he was saying. Once we resolved that issue, he started talking more. Then from there we moved to more functional speech and speaking within the topic.Hi Nugget,

Talking about frequency of therapy, I have also decided to stop my son’s twice a week EIPIC at Leapfrog from Mar onwards. So now he will only have pte SLT, OT and social class as therapies.
Decided to stop EIPIC as I feel there is no breakthrough after a while and what are being taught seems repetitive in his SLT, OT and social class. So decided to stop so that he will be able to attend his K1 class on all five days of a week instead of having to skip two days due to EIPIC. Another reason is that his K1 academics are getting more serious with English and chinese spelling starting in term 3, don’t want him to miss it. Hope I made the right decision to stop his EIPIC. -
Hi Wassant,
Later I PM you a private per-school that accept special needs kids in CCK. Not expensive also the fee. -

Talk to him? Play dates? No cousins?Hi,

My boy's best play pal and \"therapist\" is my younger gal. She's constantly hanging around and talking to him, ask him questions, making him play with her etc. it takes a long time but eventually we saw some changes especially after entering pri school. He made friends.
Find someone who he can click with. Probably it will take a while before he finds that person. May not necessarily share the same interest. His best friend in school doesn't read anything about science that he's obsessed with. And it's a girl. He totally adores her and wanted to take sch bus to be with her.
