      lavendery:
I need to clarify the whole story before it cause other mummies unnecessary destress.

My girl was actually on high fever (39.5 to 40.2 deg) for almost 1 week and she was coughing very badly too. KKH doc said most likely it's due to viral infection after they did a blood test on her because the fever medicine (paracetemol and Ibuprofen) and cough syrup did not seem to show any improvement on her.

Hence the doc prescribed 1 week course of antibiotics as its not good to keep on having such high fever and persistent coughing.

In such scenarios, its advisable to trust the doc. I believe doc will not anyhow prescribe antibiotics to kids unnecessary.
there was once i consulted my paeds on whether we should restrict certain medications as my dd3 was on GFCF diet then and medications generally contain some level of gluten.

the response from my paeds then was to the effect that we need to consider risk-benefit ratio. So its a consideration of whether the benefit of having the medication (eg. to manage the prolonged cough) outweighs the total risk (eg. the risk of having the cough prolonged plus the risk of meltdowns/sensory issues).

its a difficult call, but hopes this provides some form of approach in weighing options to help in our decision making. Perhaps look at it this way - we are already refraining from giving strong medications to our kids unless absoluting necessary, so this itself is already a form of practising the risk-benefit approach.

      my two cents worth.

        helplessmum,

I agree with mashy and auntieM. You can find out more about Autism online. There are a lot of helpful resources (or information) on the internet. Every child is different, so may have different behavior.

I'm attaching two links for your reference

        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002494/

        http://www.autism.com/

Don't just read from wikipedia. You can google or yahoo search \"autism\" or \"autism spectrum disorder\" to get more information.
agree too ... helplessmum, if I may, do get a grip on yourself, and calm down first. you have to help yourself first to help your boy.

There are many sources of information around. it look me about 6 months (?) to read through information, and process them according to what I need. While some sources tell the truth and the others could be marketing gimmicks, once you read enough you should be able to get a consistent picture of what you need to make your decisions.

Even after two years, I am still reviewing and finetuning the program for my dd3 because there are still gaps that we have not addressed.

Such things take time, so do allow yourself some time in this. Take heart that you have already started some form of program for your son. We may not do things right the first time, but as long as you continue to take steps to improve the program for him, things will get better eventually. There is no other way about it.

        Hope this helps.

TOday I went to 1 session of speech therapy w my son with 2 other kids …

The teacher was trying very hard to control e class. My son is new but 1 kid who already there for half yr seems very serious no eye contact just grab stuff n make weird sound…and another keep talking her own languages…although she seems to interact n attentive to teacher…

Will this kind of class situation help my son? Will he pick up the kids behaviors along the way?

Don't worry, try to trust the teacher to know what to do. She will be able to intervene if he attempt to do anything not so appropriate. If you son is ok, I would suggest that you try not to stay in room when the lesson is conducted. Usually teachers don't feel comfortable and dare not do what they need to do to control the class when parents are around.

Anyway, you also need to be prepared that his classmates will have some kind of problem or another. If the kids are perfectly normal, they won't be at the speech therapy class...( they would likely be busy in some enrichment class like ballet or IQ enhancement class I suppose..hahaha  )

Also cuz my son will cry if I gO then affect his classmate nO good.

AlsO I can enforce teaching method at home but I think for 2 lessons only.

2.5yo can go enrichment class like iq enrichment class ? Maybe from there he k pick up social skills?
