      Hi Double E

Can you share more on brainy moves? What’s the fee like? My son has issue with focusing and tend to lose interest quickly.

Cognitive learning offered what subject for academics ?

I tried to find kindergarten and childcare with low teacher to student ratio mostly are 1:10-15.

I hv not been to Brainy moves yet so can’t share much. But u can read from its website. Just google brainy moves. Dr Jia Jia, if u know who is also attending lesson there, he has dyslexia.

As for Cognitive, they teach Eng, maths and science. Each subject is charged separately.

          Hi Snow24,

Which part of Singapore do u stay in? There are some private pre-schools that offers integrated programs for special needs child. For example, out of the 3hrs of class, the child may join in for 1hr then get pulled out for 1-to-1 coaching by Sped teacher. I heard of Zee House and St Gerald’s and Ichiban Nurtureland and Pre-school by the Park (Shelford road). There is another one at toa payoh and one at bishan. Can any mommy help provide the names of the centres?

I think you really need to change pre-school for your son because the current school is really not conducive for your son. Good luck in your search!

Its that time of the year where we slow down a bit, catch our breath, and think about things.

What do you celebrate about your special one during the year, and what do you aspire for your special one for the coming year?

I celebrate that she has become more vocal, more expressive and more communicative, at times to the point of being funny and cheeky. I celebrate the opportunities that have been given to her to go on stage to perform and receive awards in school, and how they have built her confidence. I celebrate the fact that she has been healthy and generally happy throughout the year.

I aspire for her to be more effective and meaningful in her social interactions with her peers. I aspire to discover an area of her interest that I can build to prepare her into adulthood. And of course, being the kiasumum that I am, not shy to say that I aspire her to do better in her academics ... hahaha.

              What's yours? Let's share. 😄

                Hi

How do we help mild ASD child who always leave classroom without permission?

The child is not focusing in all classes and tend to leave the classroom.

                  Snow24m,
how old is your child? if he can understand what u tell him, you can try doing social stories. Make up your own story and have it printed and read and show him. Eg, if need to leave the classroom for toilet, he has to raise up his hand to ask for permission. He can't leave classroom without permission, if so, what is the consequence? eg. Teacher will punish.

Good idea. Beside the punishment, it may be a good idea to also highlight the social consequences of his actions - disrupts the class, distracts his classmates, makes it more difficult for the teacher as she has to 'chase' him, makes her annoyed because she thinks that he is disobedient etc. Since my daughter, like other ASD kids, is not so socially aware, I always try to highlight the social consequences for her. Also, list things he can do when he is bored instead of leaving the room - read the page again, read further, focus on one particular thing of interest, even daydream!

                      Hi Snow24,

ABA class might be able to help your son learn appropriate class room behaviour. Or you might be keen on 1-to-1 Sped lessons which helps as well. Reinforce at home with social stories (as recommended by Double E and slmkhoo).

                        Dear all

My son is 4.5 years old.I reminded him to stay in the classroom before he goes for the lesson. However,he still leave the classroom many times without permission and the teacher has to bring him.back to the classroom which irritate the teacher.

1 to 1 Sped lesson or ABA class would it helps him to learn how to behave and not leave class in a group setting ?

Any recommendation on 1 to 1 Sped lesson and ABA class ? What will he learn in the 1 to 1 Sped lesson and ABA class?
