      Daddy: Yes.
DS: Do Crocs grow? (he means the shoes)
Daddy: No, only living things grow.
DS: What about the living room?

Wow, your DS is a smart one!!

Being stumped by a kid - the joys of parenting 😉

      :rotflmao:

Doesn't that prompt us to think why is Living room called a Living room and not something else like Family room? 😂[/quote]hahahah! in Singapore, it should be called a shrinking room!

In other countries you can get mobbed (robbed) in daylight because you are the miniority race.

No matter how sandwiched we are, we are still safe even staying in public housing - HBD...
In short, I stand with those on the be contended lines. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Yup, yup, that's how I feel. It's not garden of Eden but it's safe enough. I can drive home with just a little child back to my neighborhood which is poorly lit and very quiet at night. My hubby travels a lot for work, so safety in the neighbourhood is very impt for me.

My child sure got a place to study in public school. Things are getting more expensive but at least we don't need to eat only dried tofu (Tempe?) all the time. And I am always thankful being a Chinese in sg , rather than our neighbouring countries. But that's me the mediocre talking la.

true. not just neighbouring countries. if you are an asian, even staying in AU you might get discriminated. and caucasians are usually more vocal and they tell u get out of my country in ur face. not a nice situation to be in when u have kids in tow.

u see, over here we only vent our frustrations online anonymously. so we're in a very safe place. in other countries, i think they'll start a strike. LOL

if you have a chance, move else where and stay for a while and you will get what I mean.

over here, Singaporeans are mostly very tolerant of immigrants… no matter how u say indian curry stinks, chinese very rude, but we will still co-exist with them.

i think the point of discontention is just that cars are expensive and HBD costs a bomb. LOL. and not generally hating to stay here. if cars and houses are cheap then i think the whole world would wanna move here.

no comments on car and house issues. just make lemonade out of the lemons. stay in HBD 3 room flat and take MRT. i don’t own a car anyway. i just take taxis when the need arises for a car. yeah I know pay through the nose but its better than buying ridiculous priced car.

Don’t mean to be rude, but so what if you hate Singapore? You still have to stay here right…

Anyway, don’t compare ourselves to other countries. In other countries you can get mobbed (robbed) in daylight because you are the miniority race. Even our public primary schools no matter how "lousy" is good. Your child don’t really mix with other children whose parents are drug addicts and stuff like that.

No matter how sandwiched we are, we are still safe even staying in public housing - HBD…

    • RE: Petition to ministers to regulate pre-school fees

i would like to sign the petition. how do i do it?

i just wanna say that its true that PCF and NTUC are offering the lower end prices - but they are not cheap if you have 2 kids and average family income is 4k. easily 1k gone to pay for child care (assuming 350 per child) but the youngest class (3 year old) is usually more expensive. plus you have to pick up kids before 7pm, so parents can’t really work overtime - unless you get a maid to counter this.

and what if the PCF / NTUC CC nearest my house is full, what do i do? from experience most NTUC and PCF have long wait list also.

i am not even talking about "branded" preschools here. so whoever that oppose to the peition is really shallow.

i just want to know why child care fees of $650 before $300 subsidy does not guarantee a place? why can’t child care be free (esp those like PCF and NTUC) if they encourage mothers to work full time. don’t they know gone are the days where work is just 9 to 5?

    • RE: Guys, do you give your earnings to Wifey to safekeep?

if the HB is a spendthrift, btr for wife to manage the $$. provided wife is not those "Wah u spend so much, so must I type" LOL.

my hb "squander" every single cent of his salary. the fixed allowance he gives me, he will never get to see. cos once he sees, its sayonara $$.

ok squander is a too strong word, but 1k is the average spend per mth. on petrol food drinks top up cash card blah blah blah. and whoever says 1k can maintain a household must be out of sync.

      Hi,

I read that MGPS is more difficult to get in now. But saw the data is saying ballot for >2km. So does it mean if I move to 1km away from the school, I would be able to get my daughter in?
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bukit-timah

But when I went to the MOE website, it shows balloting for less than 1 km. Zzz.
