Hi, I am a parent of a Sec 1 student. May I know what were previous years’ Sec 3 Subject Combination choices? The information page of the school indicated ‘Science’ as one of the O Level subjects. Is it Sc(P/C), Sc(C/B) or Sc(P/B)? Does the school have class(es) that do double pure sciences (e.g. Phy+Chem / Chem+Bio) and double humanities (e.g. SS+1Elective + a pure Humanities subject different from the chosen Elective)? Can Sec 2-4 parents please advise whether Sec 1s in the past few years were expected to stay in SG during March hols? Were there any compulsory cultural overseas trips for Sec 1s in June hols? It is part of the package from the vendor it seems, not additional $$ for the parents or the school. Will be good if other vendors can also do the same without incurring addtional costs to the school or parents. Sometimes, it is how companies want to do their businesses.

Just started catching up on this post again and saw the OEP-related posts.

I think it may be good to suggest to the school that if they can, in the future, for big cohort's overseas trip, they may be able to ask their vendor to provide medical personnel on duty.

My friend's son in RI Year 2 this year. The entire cohort went to Malacca learning journey for a few days in early January. Their vendor managed to get a full-time nurse to be attached to the cohort. When some boys contracted some minor ailments during the trip, the school staff brought the boys to a clinic to seek medical treatment. I was most impressed when I learnt about this.

Hope ACS(I) will be able to provide similar support (wherever possible) for our DS in future large cohort OEP or overseas learning journeys. That will put parents' minds at ease. I understand that for smaller overseas outings, it may be harder to get that kind of medical support.

Lots of the year 3 boys who went to Hanoi for OEP fell sick. Heard even the teacher is sick.

Saw the photos some of the boys posted on facebook, in some pictures, they looked like they were shivering even with their jackets on.

Quite a few will be on MC today (including my boy).

Wondering whether those how those who went to even colder region like Shanghai and Yunnan fared.

Maybe it's not such a good idea to arrange trip to these regions during this time of the year ?

Oh dear. The information in the recent posts sound scary, if the teachers treat the pupils like that and if the Principal is not approachable. Who says she’s a former head in Gifted Education Branch? One can call the GE Branch to find out if there was indeed such a staff member there years ago.


There are plenty of rumours going around about the backgrounds of school principals. But unless the Principal is well-respected by his/her own pupils (of a whole range of academic abilities), their parents and school staff members (teaching and support staff), then a Principal is a truly good principal, a true leader of education who sets a good example for his/her staff to emulate. Otherwise, any illustrious educational background is of no real value to the development and welfare of his/her students, especially the weaker ones whose parents cannot afford private tuition and there is not enough encouragement and help from their school leaders and teachers (if what Kiasu parents said is true - that this sch is interested in grooming top classes).
