      Hi Parents

Just started catching up on this post again and saw the OEP-related posts.

I think it may be good to suggest to the school that if they can, in the future, for big cohort's overseas trip, they may be able to ask their vendor to provide medical personnel on duty.

My friend's son in RI Year 2 this year. The entire cohort went to Malacca learning journey for a few days in early January. Their vendor managed to get a full-time nurse to be attached to the cohort. When some boys contracted some minor ailments during the trip, the school staff brought the boys to a clinic to seek medical treatment. I was most impressed when I learnt about this.

Hope ACS(I) will be able to provide similar support (wherever possible) for our DS in future large cohort OEP or overseas learning journeys. That will put parents' minds at ease. I understand that for smaller overseas outings, it may be harder to get that kind of medical support.

Lots of the year 3 boys who went to Hanoi for OEP fell sick. Heard even the teacher is sick.

Saw the photos some of the boys posted on facebook, in some pictures, they looked like they were shivering even with their jackets on.

Quite a few will be on MC today (including my boy).

Wondering whether those how those who went to even colder region like Shanghai and Yunnan fared.

Maybe it's not such a good idea to arrange trip to these regions during this time of the year ?

Need advise please. Taking Higher mother tongue for O level (Sec 4) next year and taking Normal mother tongue in Sec 3 this year.

Is there minimum requirement in Normal mother tongue (like minimum C6) and next year Sec 4 no need to take Normal mother tongue again?

Is there minimum requirement in Higher mother tongue (take in Sec 4 and like minimum C6) and no need to take mother tongue in JC/IB subsequently?

Thanks in advance for your advise.

A full-time nurse sounds expensive in such time of budget limitation. Sounds like there are others out there with more luxury

            Hi Mum1113,

Sec 3 students taking normal mother tongue @ \"O-Level\" scoring below grade B3 will be advised to drop Higher Mother Tongue in Sec 4 and retake the normal mother tongue in June. But I've heard cases of students scoring below B3 appealing to continue HMT in sec 4.

If the student passed higher mother tongue with a minimum of grade \"D7\", he will not be required to take mother tongue if he is in a JC offering \"A-level\"
. However, if he is taking IB, he still needs to take a group 2 subject which will either be \"Language ab initio\" or \"Language B\".

            Hope this clarifies. 🙂

It is part of the package from the vendor it seems, not additional $$ for the parents or the school. Will be good if other vendors can also do the same without incurring addtional costs to the school or parents. Sometimes, it is how companies want to do their businesses.

I tried reading up IB subjects/scoring scheme.

"Group 2: Language acquisition. An additional language, taken at the following levels: Language B (SL or HL), or Language ab initio (SL only)."

"Points are awarded from 1 to 7, with 7 being equal to A*, 6 equal to A, and so on. Up to three additional points are awarded depending on the grades achieved in the extended essay and theory of knowledge, so the maximum possible point total in the IBDP is 45.[45] The global pass rate for the IB diploma is approximately 80%.[46] In order to receive an IB diploma, candidates must receive a minimum of 24 points or an average of four (or C) out of a possible seven points for six subjects"

The above means that Chinese taken as Language B (SL or HL), or Language ab initio will have to contibute to the final scoring. If student score only 1 point for Chinese he will get 36 + 3 = 39 points if he score top grade for all other subjects 5 subjects, extended essay and theory of knowledge?

                I am confused.

Correction, if score 1 point (need min. 2 points) for Language B (SL or HL), or Language ab initio cannot pass / qualify for diploma.
