      Hi,

Not sure if this has been discussed recently. I heard that there is a minimum period before I can use an address for the P1 registration. Is this true?

Smiling Orchid okie, halal if not wrong, but thought standard sometimes fluctuates.

Can check Deli Hub (reasonably priced) or Kriston (more pricey, but good layout). Both halal.

      For BBQ, can try ezb.

Four Seasons - not bad for normal catering. Tried its BBQ too, no complaints.

    • RE: Left Hander- how to correct?

      Hi,

Me a leftie, and my parents and siblings are all right-handed. But my parents were quite happy to leave me alone. In fact, my mum kept saying that it's probably in the family, 'cos my maternal granddad and some aunts are more lefties, but were forced to correct to using their right hand (hence, some are now able to write or use chopsticks with both).

Personally, though it can be sometimes inconvenient to be a leftie (eg using can opener, peeler, etc), I am quite glad my parents didn't force me to change. Are lefties smarter? One article I read eons back said that lefties, being the minority in a rightie-world, are forced to use both sides of their brains and to think / see differently (since some things are not designed for us lefties). That's why they seem smart.... 🙂

My twin gals are now 2 years old, and ever since they started stretching out their hands to hold toys, pens, etc, one naturally uses her left hand, while the other, her right. We also didn't want to force any changes. But i have to admit that it can be a little sad to see my leftie gal struggling with the magnetic board (whose pen is always strapped on the right side of the board!) 😞

    • RE: Your daughter's hair, long or short?

My gals are very active (to the extent that they have to be instructed to walk slowly, ‘cos they love running and jumping around) and their features are a little boyish. Hence, I’ve always wanted them to have slightly longer hair (as in shoulder length) to make them look more like girls…

But my parents are strong proponents of short hair… plus my gals always perspire… so my mum have been trimming my gals’ hair short… literally… despite my regular objection. And it’s always the case of trim first, then let mummy know… or worse, don’t say anything and see if mummy can detect the trim… sigh…

      mincy:
Ailment / Remedy / Remarks (if any)

      1. Diarrhea / canned pineapples / consumed without the syrup
      2. Flu or throat infection or cough / cracked lingzhi spores / best taken when symptom first appear. (open capsule and give half for kids less than 4? yrs old)
      3. Cough / Vicks (Rub under the foot when they are sleeping )
My girls like to run around and sometimes, they can't control their pace and just bump into each other or right smack into the wall or something... and a small bump may appear on their forehead... My mum will then get a bit of cooking oil and massage gently on that bump immediately... the sore will usually disappear within moments.

Eh... Doesn't seem to be in the same category of remedies that you are collating. Anywayz, hope it helps...

    • RE: Twins- Do you put them in same class?

Do you have twins too? I have twin gals, going 2 in Feb 09.

Heard different views from friends who have twins. One believed in putting them in different classes, so that they make friends with other children and not stick to one another. Another has a twin sister, said they were very close since young, 'cos they went to same school, same class. But specifically requested to go different class in secondary school to meet new friends.

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

      Belle:
      [Moderator's note: Threads merged.]

I am thinking of hiring a domestic helper, either from Myanmar or Burma.

Appreciate any comment or feedback from parents with maid from either one of these countries.

Understand that in terms of communication wise, filipino maid can understand better.
I think luck plays a big part in hiring of maid, whatever the country.

My first one was from Indonesia, worked in Taiwan & HK before. Can speak Mandarin relatively well, smattering of Cantonese and barely any English. Thot it was a good catch 'cos my parents can only speak Malay and Chinese, and very little English. She started off fine, but then began having a lot of phone calls from her family & bf, then started trying to borrow money from my parents (who came over to my place daily to help take care of my babies). Tried to persuade my dad to buy phone cards etc without paying him back. Always trying to eavesdrop on our conversations. Sent her back before her contract ends ('cos she said she didn't want to work for other employers).

Tried going without maid, but tough for my parents 'cos my twin gals are so young. So hired a maid from Myanmar a few months back. Speaks very little English, but able to follow instructions quite well. Timetable very helpful for fresh maids like them. She picks up new stuff pretty fast, but didn't do more than what she's told to do. Maybe she was afraid she'll do something wrong....

But when she first came, she ate a lot! Bf at 7am when she woke up, tea break at around 11am, then lunch at around 1pm, tea break again at about 5pm before dinner at abt 8pm (2 servings). She finished all my canned drinks and titbits in the fridge within 2 weeks (which I stocked up for some family gathering a couple of weeks back). She has put on about 10+ kg since she arrived less than 6 months ago. I was so worried with her appetite (and her tummy from all the eating, thinking that she was pregnant) that I called the agent to query if all Myanmese maids are like that. Agent assured me some are like that for a few months, then they'll cut back and it's back to normal appetite again (which it did recently). But now she like to snack on our chocolate, yakult, etc...

But we're okie with her appetite as long as she does your work well and do not play punk with my kids & parents. But we still have problems communicating with her. Must go step by step, plus some gestures, to let her get the picture.

Lucky so far? No complaints, I guess, especially if you close one eye and your agent is okie. But agent did share that some girls who came together in the same batch as my maid simply cannot make it, even though they pass the MOM test.

    • RE: Mummy Koala Bear: Hi to all

kekeke… such funny yet encouraging responses… thank you!

Chief KS, agree totally on the karma part. Always felt that my mum was overly concerned with my safety, etc etc, even after i got married… and when i knew i was pregnant with twin gals, i knew it’s payback time… and you can see that "now you’ll understand" smile on my mum face!

My gals are great koalas… loves to hug and being hugged… just wish i have more time with them… now working towards being full-time mummy when they start school, but this could be a luxury…
