Hello fellow kiasu parents,
My kid is now 9 months old. Over the past 9 months, I have found it difficult to keep track of baby records across so many caregivers.
When I was just newly parent, the doctors would advise me to record down all the poop timings and its colour/texture on a booklet. As my kid has congenital issue, I often keep track of newborn temperature on google spreadsheet on my phone, which I share with my wife, so that we can input the values together.
Our confinement lady also initially helped us with the recording. As our newborn had irregular poops and colour/texture, we also started snapping photos of poop regularly to keep track and show the doctor during visits. But the photos are on the confinement ladies phone and it's quite a chore to consolidate it.
We had faced very similar issues with temporary babysitters, such as our parents, and also domestic helpers at home.
When our parents bring our baby to the doctor, they don't provide all the details as some of the details are with me and my wife.
We thought that maybe there should be a better way to consolidate all the records by having all the caregivers input them into a single app. The records will also be given to the caregivers so that they can show the doctors the history of records for them to make informed decisions.
We spoke to some parents and they also share similar difficulties. I was wondering if any of you share similar difficulties? I hear some parents want more help with enrichment.
Some fellow parents have come together to see if we could create an app to help us parents. If we could gather some feedback at https://goo.gl/forms/hEMnHMbfHFrZqJzv2
, we might actually develop this app.
Please share your thoughts, so that we can decide whether or not this app will make sense to another fellow parent like you. I hope we can create an app that is very very useful for parenting, for my own daughter, and hopefully for yours too.
I very kiasu de!

RE: Macbook battery replacement
Apple products don’t have the best grade of laptops. I recommend getting from other vendors. I know that means switching to Windows. But I have far better experience using other vendors than apple products.
Just my opinion. -
RE: Web Hosting Services
If you are very very very technologically savvy, I suggest Amazon's t2.nano instance. It's where I host https://shurn.me and a few other subdomains. Then I use cloudflare to CDN most of the asset traffic. I also bought 3 year reserved instance. Now I only pay minimally for some traffic and storage.
But, you must be very technologically savvy to fine tune the system in such a way that an extremely low end server can serve a decent traffic. -
RE: Handphone for elderly
My grandparents can only use dumb phones. Those old nokia models are the best for them.

RE: When do you give your chid a hp?
I would give my children the use of phone as soon as they learn some degree of responsibility. Early exposure to phone and internet helps the child to learn handling responsibility that comes with power.
Denial of such experiences will only make it harder to learn in future. The internet is a dangerous place. I get it. That’s why we as parents must expose them in the safest manner possible and guide them through the dangers. Privacy is important. Who you chat with is important. Addiction is a real problem, learn to identify it and deal with it.
I’m quite liberal in my ways of parenting. -
RE: Google Docs in place of Microsoft Office applications
I use google docs and libreoffice.
I don’t need most of the fancy functionalities of Microsoft word. The online nature of Google docs means that I can work anywhere, as long as I have internet functionality. Given my lifestyle, I am always connected anyway, so I’m not affected.
If I ever need any fancy function, libreoffice fits me. It is also adheres better with standards, so whatever document I make on libreoffice, it can be read on every modern word processor. -

RE: Drupal
It’s very common for non-tech users to inherit systems from another non-tech user in SMEs. It’s rare for SMEs not in tech-focused industry to have a dedicated IT team.
If you’re just tasked to administrate drupal, a simple course from udemy is fine. But if you need to go beyond, into the technical realm of drupal, please don’t. Unless you have a passion for IT, it is going to be a nightmare experience. It takes years of training and practise to hone such skills, and lots of dedication to maintain that level of proficiency. -
