Just to share, I knew a teacher whose girl is in St Anthony Canossa and another retired teacher who taught in the school as relief teacher, both said the school is great. Since it's opening up to boys next year this is a good option to consider.

erm ... think you are confused

there isn't any primary school called \"St Anthony Canossa\"

there are 2 different primary schools -

1) St Anthony Canossian primary (located in Bedok, an All-Girls school)

2) Canossa Catholic primary
(located at Salim road, co-ed)

i believe you are refering to #2

Yes I'm referring to the second one sorry abit confused.

Maris Stella 1-2km

St Andrews junior >2km
Geylang methodist >2km
Mee toh >2km

Maris Stella is my first choice but am worried balloting will omit 1-2km entirely due to the little number of vacancies left for Phase 2C this year.
Pls advise on chances. And what is the next best second choice.
Thanks!

Your combi is like 3 Christian and 1 Buddhist school. Religious preference? But guessing u r staying at MacPherson private estate or Joo Seng due to proximity for the 3 schools except Mee Toh? I stay at Macpherson HDB side, but have already secured place at Maha Bodhi in phase 2B.

Am going to be blunt and say u r realistically selling yourself short as all the choices except for Geylang Methodist are hot schools and should not have vacancies left to be a second choice if Maris Stella fails.

Since u r even considering Geylang Methodist, why don't u consider Canossa as backup plan since it opens up to boys next year? Cedar Primary maybe if close by? I stay very near a student Care centre with huge population of Geylang Methodist kids and am not impressed to be frank. My son's classmate's parents are sending their girl to Canossa despite their elder boy in Geylang Methodist. Was leaning towards Canossa as backup over Geylang Methodist myself if I did not strike my MBS jackpot tbf.

Good luck.

Since there’s no PV for SJIJ so does it mean that those applying for 2B will be mainly from GRL? Isn’t it better to do grassroot in case if the school have chance to ballot and we can apply for another within the same constituency.
No, the bulk of phase 2B applicants at SJIJ are Catholic church members.

Sure, fine if she wants to do GRL, but to get the letter, it needs far far far more volunteer hours than normal PV. Plus they have really tightened up the rules about seniority etc. Must be very high ranking in the PA to qualify.
So to get into 2b for SJIJ or St Andrew it’s better to be Catholic Church members?
I heard for GRL you need to be at least secretary n abv to qualify for the letter ?

Asking on behalf of a friend who has a sg50 boy.

She's staying in whampoo so within 1km she had Hong Wen(opposite her house) and SJIJ. But they are looking at confirmed place in 2B. They are also open to moving near St Andrew for 2B. Which school had a higher chance at 2b before she decides to do volunteer. Thanks.

I do not know her timeline for applying PV, but please just apply first then decide from there.

- Eliminate SJIJ because they do not have PV scheme.
- Hong Wen: monitor this year Dragon year 2B to see if <1km confirm get in. If yes, that’s the best option for her. Don’t need to move house.
- St Andrew’s: if she can move <1km then this is quite a cfmed seat. Unless that year suddenly got several more Anglican church members <1km decide to enroll their sons there.

Since there's no PV for SJIJ so does it mean that those applying for 2B will be mainly from GRL? Isn't it better to do grassroot in case if the school have chance to ballot and we can apply for another within the same constituency.

Balloting is done on the last day of registration in case it's oversubscribed. Anyway it's computerised and just press one button. My friend kid went through balloting in HPPS and they told her can call the next day for unofficial result except when they called end up was told to wait for official SMS from moe. The schools got to ballot first before they can submit names to moe to blast out the SMS so they can't wait until last min to ballot.

No la.. balloting is conducted at HQ, not individual school.

I'm not sure cos that was what the school told the parents so we also assume that since they said unofficial results will know the next day. Maybe on the day itself moe already conducted balloting via computerised system.

Analysis by Straits Times published today:

“17 schools see more than half of places filled after first phase of P1 registration for siblings”

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/education/17-schools-see-more-than-half-of-their-spots-filled-after-first-phase-of-p1?xtor=CS3-18
The article is not very accurate cos it's written on 29 June. There was a further decrease in availability after 30 June on many other schools .

APS has 90 kids registered under phase 1 although 170 vacancies have been allocated.

there are just 2 days of registration for phase 1 right? that means the remaining 80 places would be for phase 2A2?
80 goes to 2A1 first if leftover then spill over to 2A2.
