Hi parents,
I’m a fellow parent in Singapore, and over the past few months, I’ve been developing an AI-powered Chinese Reading Companion called SmartRead.
The idea came from a challenge that many English-speaking families may be familiar with:
Your child looks at a full page of Chinese text and immediately feels overwhelmed.
They may know some words, but struggle to understand the passage as a whole. Very often, they don’t know where to start, lose confidence quickly, and eventually become dependent on parents or tuition teachers.
As both a parent and a Chinese educator, I’ve increasingly felt that many children are actually capable of learning Chinese — they simply need more support, guidance, and successful learning experiences.
SmartRead is designed to help children move step by step from:
“Chinese is too difficult for me.”
to
“I can understand this on my own.”
One feature that may be especially helpful for English-speaking families is our High English Support Mode.
This mode provides:
English explanations for key ideas and vocabulary
Step-by-step reading guidance
Bilingual support when needed
Gradual transition towards more Chinese exposure
The goal is not to translate everything, but to help children build enough confidence and understanding so that they can eventually read independently.
The system currently supports students from Primary 3 to Secondary 4.
I’m looking for 5–10 families to participate in the first round of testing. Participation is completely free, and I will personally follow up with each family to gather feedback and improve the product.
If you think this might benefit your child, or if you’d simply like to learn more, please feel free to PM me.
Thank you!
