eh…we are referring to the hotpot that is constantly heating water right? one kettle, fill up the thermos flask. Bb drink bottle milk also not 100% hot water right? Anyway, it’s individual/family choice. if family is happy to pay that utility charge, all is good.

Anyway, LED that uses 4W vs T5 that uses 6W. Cost price is very much different, will the energy savings amount to much?
I only recommend to Harlequin who is perceive to be well able to afford the cost..

Strictly speaking, the saving in bills may Not justify the investment for peasants. LED is still quite pricey.

But for dual income families, having to constantly remember to boil water can be a real chore.. and imagine kopi addicts rushing to work only to realise there is no hot water in the thermo flask...... anyway, this is matter of choice.. if you have someone to always ensure supply of hot water and someone to boil for you.. why not?

btw, the kettle runs on gas or electricity? and is it PUB gas or cylinder?

If you take away one electricity consuming appliance, and then replace it with one that runs on cylinders, it is not surprising if there is significant drop in utility bills. Even if it runs on PUB gas, gas will still be cheaper then electricity if heating is concerned.

So, for those who can afford to boil water without hotpot, it is indeed good cost saving advise to switch to gas heated kettles.
Does it matter if it is pub gas or cylinder?

So back to led bulbs. Where is the saving leh? Save on electricity usage or save on buying replacement bulbs? Honestly, I don't see much savings in my led lighting in terms of electricity usage. But I have to say our bulbs lasted more than 3 years (touch wood). The only one which needed replacing was one which was on for 24/7 and it's first replacement was after two years.

And yes, what Limlim said is true - the make of the led bulbs is impt. The cheaper ones don't last, even though they are also led bulbs.

had a friend who switched to LED lights and she complained about the bulbs constantly needed replacing - hubby heads some energy conservation unit in his co so he may not be buying those dubious branded ones.

I'm no engineer and these stuff baffle me. Just going with whatever DH chooses. πŸ™‚
Oh, this is different from my own experience. We changed all the lightings To led (except kitchen) when we moved in four years ago. all except one led bulbs are still going strong, never been replaced yet.

Technically the hot pot heats once and the rest of the time keeps warm. Er, I was just saying. Not that I need to make milk. πŸ˜‚

I mentioned it because, when you look at PUB bills, it may not reflect the total energy cost if you use cylinder gas. So if you switch from hotpot to cylinder gas, you may see a significant drop in PUB bills, but you may actually be replacing your cylinder more often which you didn't realise.

If you're talking about total cost$, LED may not save you much. I am strictly talking about energy consumption only.. I'm not recommending LED to the \"Not very rich\"..... myself wouldn't consider LED.. yet.. πŸ˜‰

Yah. I never bothered with airpots before kids came along. But when I had dd, I promptly went out to get one. In fact, I had all the possible convenience a mum can have to make life easier. Electric steriliser, electric bottle warmer, mini fridge in the room to store expressed breast milk, etc.

IIRC, LED is rated at least 20,000hrs..

CFL maybe 8,000hrs.. just a rough number..

btw, talking about lighting bills.... how you know the LED doesn't make a difference ar? you compare the before/after..?

Also, you need to consider the power rating too. If you replace a 22W CFL with 17W LED, (example only, pluck number from air), and it is same brightness, you will see a saving in bills.

If you replace a 22W CFL with 22W LED, you will not see any savings as they consume the same power. But the LED maybe brighter.

I did a rough calculation, very primitive though.

In my old home, the place is smaller and we used cfl bulbs. I only need 6 bulbs and 3 circular fluorescent tubes to lit the home during the night. The electricity charges is about $25. Now, with led bulbs, I need 8 bulbs, 2 circular florescent tubes and 2 linear florescent tubes for the place and the bill is about $35.
