      ScaredyMum:
Just wondering, if anyone already started planning \"what to do\" after PSLE?

Not holidays, but like any preparation courses for Sec 1, or tuition plans etc?
Do the kids still need to go back to school after PSLE and if they do, what do they do in school?

(I know it's SA period, and still have prelims and the ACTUAL thing to prepare but my mind just can't help wandering far off... so dun bash me! lolx).
I have an elder boy who is sec 4 now. Based on what I saw, I would strongly encourage:

      1. Revise pri level Chinese if the child is weak in this subject. Build a firmer foundation before starting sec 1.

      2. Start to read newspaper articles, especially the Straits Times Saturday Part D and the Zaobao local news.

      3. Start to read The Times magazine to build up non-fiction writing skills

      4. Start to exercise more as sec sch PE is not child play.

Only 4 months left before psle, very stressed and worried for my DD. Started revision plan since last Oct but making very slow progress. Everyday so much homework and Supp classes. How to make it? So little time left!

                Goodluck8:
This is what the teacher told the class after CA1. The teacher comparing how many students having A* for certain subjects in previous year and this year A* reduce to how many. And the teacher every time emphasied to my DD's class that this year standard is not as good as last year.

That's why parents started to discuss this topics. And we tends to console ourselves that we are only competing with the 'snake' kids.

If i sound insulting in the previous post, i apologise. Maybe i did not really explain why did i quote that.
Actually, it's not uncommon for teachers to feel this way, just that most teachers wouldn't tell that to the kids.

I've heard from at least three teachers who say,\"Last year's batch is better than this year.\" in different years. And if I'm not afraid to offend, I would remark,\"I think you said the same thing last year.\"

Sometimes I think these teachers compare the batches at different times of the year ie. Beginning or first half of the year versus last quarter of the year, but they overlook this and form a false impression of the kids' abilities.

A tutor told me that the dragon kids were of a lower standard than the previous cohort ie. The rabbits. When the psle result was released, he was surprised that more dragon kids did better than his batch of rabbit kids. Previously, he also mentioned that the rabbit kids were of a lower standard than the tiger kids!

Maybe you need to prioritise what needs to be done first? Maybe identify her weakest subjects and weakest topics and work on those first? Work bit by bit everyday?

Every child is different…last year’s dragon batch was really huge.

The competition was very keen too…more kids fighting for same schools…fittest survive. I believe last year’s papers were not easy either.
Equation is: More kids, Same number of vacancies, Tougher papers (my opinion).

In any case, I do wish Snake kids all the best for PSLE.
It will be getting more stressful with past year papers piled on in July.
                    Don’t panic.

Hey ks4kids, try to relax... Perhaps relook at the plan as some of the items could be covered adequately in school? Maybe make some adjustments to it? Then we parents work with our children on areas of weakness that Sch can't specifically work with kids on?

4 months... Not long, not short but being stressed for 4 mths will take a toll on you. Take care....
