      Fact: "Life is not fair"

Fact: "All schools in Singapore are good, but some are better than others in the specific areas they focus on"
Fact: "The best school is the one that meets our children’s needs"
Fact: "Academic achievement requires perseverance, attitude, and curiosity. If the child lacks these qualities, regardless of how smart the child is, or how elite the school appears, the child cannot succeed academically."
Fact: "Academic achievement opens doors, but does not guarantee success in careers or life."

So you see, if we can get past the "life is not fair" issue, and focus on the real objective of helping our children build their character to overcome the many challenges they will face in life, everything else will fall into place by themselves. Don’t fight the wrong battle and end up losing the war.

Chief, you post is good advise for those who looks for "branded" schools regardless of distance.

But is little comfort to those who couldn’t get into the solo school next door bcoz of extreme competition…

Yes... but's that's where being informed allows you to be prepared for the situation. If you stay beside a really popular school that you want to get into just for convenience, you should learn about the entire P1 registration process so that you can work within the system to try to get priority. And unless you stay in some really out-of-place locations, getting your child into a neighbourhood school should not be a problem for most people. The school may not be right next door, but it won't be too far either.

About 98 per cent of registrants were able to get a place in a primary school of their choice, or within 2km of their home, in the Primary 1 registration exercise in the last three years.

This was according to Senior Minister of State for Education Indranee Rajah, who said yesterday that the Education Ministry will continue to ensure sufficient school places on a regional basis.....

98% is parents getting their kids in school of choice AND those within 2km of the school. I wonder how did she get the percentage for getting the kids into the school of their choice ? Fr the fill rate at Phase 1 - phase 2CS? What's her definition for \"school of their choice\"? Is it as long as it's not those that MOE need to allocate after Phase 3?

If only 2% of the parents are unhappy, their voices very loud leh

I'm very interested to see the stats that she use to support her statement.

As long as you get into a school that you applied for.. say, at P2CS, even if you're rejected at P2B, P2C.. it is still considered sch of your choice bcoz you Applied for it and got in at P2CS mah..

school of their choice doesn’t meant their first choice, that how i interpret…the number just look nice.

I agree this looks fudged. If you are forced into phase 2C and you don't dare take your chances at popular schools, does that qualify as having been given the school of your choice? 🤷

                      Really disingenuous.

98% probably includes all phases up to 2C. Only if MOE sends you to a school NOT of your choice at Phase 3 are you considered that 2%. And even then, if MOE sends you to a school within 2km and NOT of your choice, you’re within 98%. The wonders of statistics.
