There is a type of LED bulb (or tube) that look like normal FL, straight. It is LED. But I guess they should not call it T5.. T5 shd be CFL.

Yeah I think this is the one. Looks linear like a tube, energy saving and rather bright but does not flicker as much like traditional fluorescent bulb.
Is this good as studying light ?

I believe for domestic use, the 1st step is to stay away from halogen (downlight) and incandescent lightings if really wanna save energy.

Not only less efficient in illumination, it produces a gigantic amount of heat that will send your aircon bills over the roof..

basically, there are few types of bulbs

1. LED
2. CFL - compact florescent, can look like twisted, round, butterfly etc..
3. Normal florescent (straight)

CFL and florescent re essentially the same tech, but electronic circuits maybe different. CFL uses electronic ballast, which allows \"instant ON\".

4. Tungsten
5. halogen (spotlight)

I guess T5 is CFL.

It will flicker. It is basically just fluorescent bulb.

using the term "energy saving" doesn’t mean it is not FL, or something very new. maybe just marketing gimmick.

maybe there is some improvement in design etc… but it is still FL technology (I lazy to spell florescent lamp).
