SAHM_TAN,
Can you share which school (A, B, C or D) you volunteered in eventually and why? I always thought that people only choose one school to do PV at. You chose four and all four accepted you!
As for why I think PV breeds elitism, I feel that people will only volunteer at schools they think are 'good', and not everybody has the luxury of time or expertise to do PV. So PV scheme cuts off most of the working class from phase 2B.
I can imagine when you received 4 pv offer from 4 different schools :-
At that point in time, you could be in dilemma or confused, as to decide which school to pv your precious time. Do you mind sharing with us what make you decide to choose hong wen primary eventually? Is it because all along, you like sap schools for her strong Chinese immersion culture, traditional values taught, moral teaching to pupils ? Because hong wen is not affliated to any secondary school. Tq
I follow my gut feel. In times of important decision making I will close my elyes and let my gut tell me. Heehee. Like I say, I do like SAP LOL. -

In this regard, I will agree with you that PV also stacks things against the less able/well off.SAHM_TAN,

I propose the dismantling of the PV scheme, together with the alumni priority scheme. But it is clear from the statistics that the alumni priority is the bigger problem by far in terms of numbers. -

Oops sorry for the confusion. I think I have use the wrong term. It's trishaw. Probably some of the younger parents have not seen before. During my era (1970s) trishaw uncles with straw hats will cycle the children to school.hellokittyspore:
oops sorry, it not intended to be offending as I have not come across taking riskshaw to school.
I have not come across a rickshaw. Period.
As everyone stay within the vincity, children either walk, take trishaw or bicycle. My parents don't bother to send me to famous schools that are far away. To them distance and convenience for me is more important.
So sorry for using the wrong term. Just googled and realize that rickshaw is those use in 红头巾 times using the pulling mechanism. Sorry sorry..... -

May I ask what is a school registration system that is fairest of them all?
All of age Singaporean kids' name put into a computer programme, computer programme randomly allocate kid to random school :rotflmao: :siam:
Your suggestion seems the fairest.
Put our SC kids in an automated balloting by zone so every kid gets a space within the zone then there wouldn't be problem of distance.
if a kid gets balloted out of his zone of residence, match into the MP office complain about inadequate schooling opport within the zone and demand an immediate solution.

Before we ask for such things to be removed, think thrice. If your kid gets into a good school later (by transfer due to good grades / GEP admission / entrance to a full school due to good PSLE grades etc), would you want this alumni priority to be gone when your grandkid needs to enter P1?
I say just leave everything but take PRs out of the earlier phases (Phase 1 - 2A). Try that first before actually removing any scheme. -

Ballot.
Alumni priority - 3 slips
Former P2B - 2 slips
Others < 1km - 1 slip
Alumni got biggest advantage, followed by the P2B group.
Fair rite..?  -

Not fair lah. The fairest is when everyone has equal chance. :nailbite:GLORYmum:

I feel that for your case shd put inside P1. They shd tweak the system and not group it under P2A.Those with siblings in the school will get priority in phase one and most people will support this phase because most people are not nuts like me who gave birth after an eight-year difference.
To me, phase one is also unfair - to people like me. My kid has a sibling, just that she will only register for P1 when the elder one has graduated from the primary school.
It's not fair to make people like me go through two rounds of madness. Yeah, we are the very very minority which most people don't care, so we have to suffer the injustice silently.
There are practical considerations. siblings, regardless of age gap, shd be in same sch. IMO. -

Yes, of coz. If we're debating for a more wholesome system and not for vested interest.3Boys:

No matter how much you argue here, I believe the govt won’t remove the alumni priority as most in parliament have vested interest. Their kids can enter the best schools because of this same scheme. They are the elites, mostly coming from good schools, now their children can enter their alma maters because of the existence of Phase 2A. It is here to stay.
I still think removing the PRs from earlier phases may help. PRs who studied in our schools and who have selfishly remained as PRs for >20 years just want to take advantage of our school system.
