        To cut down on gas usage, does the type of cookware matter? as well as the stove condition?


        MIL stove burner is not ok, some of the caps are chipped and I notice the flames are not even. She does not know that the flame should sit under the pot. Many of her pots hv burnt marks at the sides.

        I use piped gas, most of my cookware are WMF s/s and I use residual heat to cook through the food.

          Wow! Flower and cherrygal that's amazing! Do u cook lunch also and weekends? How come mine last only 27days. Do u gals always cook soup? My maid cook soup 1 hour everyday. Actually I think city gas is cheap.

          Yes I cook on weekends too. I usually cook my soup for 2-3 hrs on stove. And I cook breakfast & lunch too but not everyday. My gas is thru pipe not tank.

            I believed the type of cookware does matter. If you use pressure cooker or thermal pot can cut the usage by quite a lot especially for stew & soup.

                Yes, cooking habits also matter. I like to use medium to low heat when boiling things, never let the fire touch the sides of the pots. The large flame is only used for quick stir-frying in my wok. After food preparation, I cook one dish after the other very quickly. I don’t let the empty wok sit on an open flame for too long.

                  Then, if you turn it off(water flow) for a while (soaping etc..), and turn it on, it will be \"hot\" for a while then stabilise. Because after you turn it off previously, the heater is still hot(even power already cut) and continue to heat the water in the heater chamber for a while.

                  using storage tank should provide more steady water temperature.

                      hi,

                      I will be away for months and would like to switch off all appliances including the fridge. But i understand that the freezer may not work again.

                      anyone knows how to switch it off properly so that it would work again when i come back later?

                        I have switched off fridge/freezer for months at a time and they worked fine when used again later. Maybe the problem others encountered could be that the escape of the coolant while the freezer is off? Topping up the coolant when you return (if the service centre can do that) should solve it. The main thing is to make sure the insides are completely dry and to leave the doors open while you are away to prevent mould from growing. Or maybe you can put some desiccant inside though I've not tried that before.
