How to coach and support your GEP child?

For math I assume? I remember it being quite fun, but my math grades plummeted too. It's alright, the standards are pitched higher than PSLE math. And I do think coverage was enough.

If I don't recall wrongly, one of the favourite topics was one of the minor JC topic (AP/GP); the test that required students to find patterns out of a string of seemingly random numbers. I don't know if JC material will help or not. Major disclaimer! It's been years since I finished GEP, and the idea of giving JC stuff to Pri schl kids is rather...heart-breaking.

Yusim, the coverage in class is usually enough for Math. They will be given past years CT papers to practise before CT. If your DD has problem, I suggest she seeks help from her teacher. No need to have tuition as it might be a waste of time & money since it's difficult to find tuition centre that really cater for GEP Math.

Hi, Maths is the most well covered subject in my son's school. Even then, there are a number of students attending external classes for Maths. So, if you feel your daughter needs extra help, do check out the relevant enrichment/tuition centres. From what the Maths teacher told me, not only the teaching pace is faster at P4, some materials covered could also be at P5 level.

Math concepts in GEP isn’t all the difficult. Most kids will not have any problem understanding. But if they are not as proficient as those math whiz in class, they will have to practice more to gain speed and accuracy.

Attending external classes does not necessary mean these students must be weaker in Maths. Contrary to the thinking, some of them are actually pretty good in Maths and getting full or near full marks.


But I do agree with the rest, the Maths concepts tested are not difficult. Perhaps, it could be a matter of adjusting to the faster pace of teaching.

The topics are the same but the depth is sec 1 and sec 2 standard.

Really? Didn't know that. Oh well... I guess as long as the kids are enjoying the process of the GE curriculum.
