Dim Sum

Ya when you go hor...if you raise your hair abit like bee-hive and wear those mini-skirts from those ah-go-go days, it will auger well with the setting. Now you know why must lose some weight?
Hi ks2me,
Just spoke to DH abt it. You described it as 'quaint', he describes it as the '1970s wayang place.' I shall have to go and 'see it to believe it' then
Haiz, he said he'll only bring me if I lose some weight ....

That place reminds me of this song in Cantonese...
θ½θ‘沑ι±δΉ°ι’ε ....... -

So our impression of the place is like an imprint, you should get a fairly accurate idea now.
Aiyoh, deja vu :!: thats exactly what my DH saidks2me:
So those who go for the first time will immediately have one of the 2 conclusions, LOVE it or HATE it, no other ways about it.

Alamak, I didn't like Red Star leh. Sorry, ks2me, our tastes diverge here a bit. Yah it's old fashioned and all that, but the dim sum is not exquisite. I like Ritz Carlton Summer Pavilion for that, yum! I thought Red Star was for busloads of tourists from Malaysia?
Talking about old fashioned, there's this place called Grand Shanghai at the Copthorne Hotel (used to be affiliated to Ye Shanghai ε€δΈζ΅· in HK) . They have that type of Shanghai style songstress singing on a stage - believe this only happens on Friday nights? The food is Shanghai style too, so it's not cantonese dim sum. Food quality is quite good (although not fabulous), but the atmosphere is really something! -

It is interesting that our experience varies so much, you saw Malaysia tourists, I saw the First Lady there... Dim sum in the night is interesting too!! ε°η¬Όε

my kids love it...when they returned home, we had many many nights of such \"live\" performance too (their handheld \"mikes\" have been replaced by the ones on the stand - the ones not singing then actually were the stands!)agreed with you on the atmosphere at Grand Shanghai. my DS was quite amused with the live performance ...

Red Star still around!?!
The last time I went there was when I was still a kid!! That must have been AT LEAST 30 years ago!
Now our favourite dim sum place is εδΉ at Carlton Hotel. Not only is their dim sum good, their Cantonese food is top notch as well. An uncle whose home is in Hong Kong, loves going there for lunch/dinner when he's in Singapore. Sometimes if he didn't feel like having any of the items offered in the standard menu, he would order something he had in HK before, and the chef has no problem whipping it up. -
