Contrary to common believes, girls in RGS aren't competitive.
As least from my dd's point of view. They don't check/compare each other's grade/score .
Err....this is not what i heard from my niece when she was in RGS (btw, she is now in RI (yr 6)...
      soda:
Also, everyone receives gifted education in RGS. I believes there're gifted classes and normal classes in NYGH.
Generally, there is not much of difference between sbge classes and the rest of classes in an IP sec sch...
moreover, it is only for 1st 2 yrs.....
when comes to 3 rd yr, all will be mixed, depending of their subj combo....

That's what I'd read from forum before. My girl is yr 2 now. She's so blessed with great classmates, CCA mates, seniors and teachers 😄

I still remember how Madam Heng emphasised about the SBGE classes during open house in 2011. There's a special talk where girls from SBGE classes presented their unique program in their more formal uniform. Well, coming from a neighbourhood school, my girl wouldn't be qualify for NYGH's SBGE anyway. RGS gives dd better opportunities.

Hi! Just wondering if it’s ‘normal’ for Y4 GPAs to take a plunge. This year’s Y4 papers have seen many killers and am getting quite worried about my daughter’s year-end GPA. Does anyone know if Y4 GPAs are required for University admissions, since there are no O level results? Thanks

think in the average range between :rahrah: 3.3 to 3.8. Of course there are 4.0 :imcool:

Are you talking about the one that is bench-marked with RI?

Partially. M2 (combined paper) was a killer with apparently many failures, even in the Maths RA classes - waiting to see the school median. Other than M2, M1 was also unusually tough compared to previous years, with again many failures; Bio this year saw a drastic drop in scores not because the paper was difficult but because of extremely strict marking rubrics. Average was apparently under 60% and contitutes 30% of final GPA, hence my concern.

Ds, yr 4 in RI, had taken the papers and hadn't received the paper/results back. He heard teacher saying that Maths marking is less straight this time, adjusting to RGS's answering details/steps.

Overall, many of ds's friends and classmates are gaining GPA. Mostly because most boys switched from playful/not-secrious mode to serious mode in yr 4. He hasn't seen any drop of GPA so far. May be I'll have more to share when he has the results back.

Thanks for sharing, Soda. I would like to find out if something I heard is accurate. For RI Y4 year-end GPA, is it true that the GPA is computed as such: 55% based on Y4 results and 45% on Y3? Does this mean all individual subject scores are recalculated for the 2 years and then the final, new GPA computed ?

Would appreciate if you could confirm this. Thanks in advance. 🙂

Actually, i would say we are pretty competitive. Competition is inevitable in any school, be it the worst or best. There's always someone trying to be better than the other. RG competition is tough too, but majority are just concerned about how well they are faring, like comparing to others. They don't really engage in backstabbing/stealing notes/hating etc.

And also, RG does not place strong emphasis on GE classes. We don't even call ourselves SBGE. We are treated like everyone else. Same teachers, same syllabus, same programs. By the time yr 3 comes, it doesn't matter if you were SBGE in lower sec. I have many non-SBGE classmates faring really well now too.

My class is not competitive at all... in fact, we share all our notes! Well, there are a few competitive ones but the majority of us help each other. We don't care about our marks. Well, that's for our class at least.
