Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Hi everyone,
My name's Claire and I'm currently working on a TV series with MOE on primary school education. I'm looking for parents to share their stories about the lengths they went to to get their children registered at a particular school. I'd also like to hear from those who may have wanted a certain school but ended up placed in another choice, or those who were placed in their first choice but then decided it was not for them and transferred elsewhere.
Do PM me if you'd like to share your story, appreciate your help! Really hoping to hear real stories so that the series will be helpful to other parents who are going to go through this soon!
(Admins, apologies if this is not allowed! :gloomy: I did check the T&C, but as this is not a commercial project I hope it's okay to post here?)
:thankyou:

Need some sharing of views on registering children in same school. Would you enrol the younger siblings in the same school as the elder sibling if the elder one is facing difficulties in school?

Actually my elder one has no problems with the school work in school. However i foresee my younger one will have problems especially after seeing the tests questions that my elder one has. Though i am worried my younger one will have a lot of difficulties , i still choose to put in the same school so that i don't have to go through balloting. So now till end of the year, i have worked constantly to teach my younger one and my younger child having tutition for maths at age of 4 plus to prepare for p1 -

You can foresee your child having problem in primary school at age of four?[/quote]my younger one is 6 this year, i forsee having problems in P1. At 4 years old also having problems cos dunno eg 4,6,7 , dunno 8 is after 7 or before 4, the number is 3. numbering teach until vomit blood
at 5 cannot understand number bonds , learn until age 6 then can catch number bond for 1-10. At least tutition teacher can teach all these plus addition, substraction. I see the test questions which my elder one has when in P1 last year. i can really sweat at the questions. luckily my elder child smart enough to do it. -

The younger one, an average will bound to have difficulties working on English and Maths when he goes P1.
I am concern with how the school helps the child integrates into primary school. We highlighted some issues to school about my elder's learning difficulties but it was not addressed due 3 years later. Though younger one do not have such issues, I have lost confidence in the school. However, sending them to different schools would also mean more inconvenience for us. -

My younger child is very slow in learning. In P1, teacher although will teach, the speed is fast.My younger child not a fast learner, have to learn earlier. I have enough horror stories from my elder on how classmates failed the test. One failed throughout the year although have been put in LSP program has sinced transferred out from the school. very demoralising

We have a boy who will be P1 in 2014 and he is Brazilian-Korean. We are a foreign family living in the central area but our home is closed to all these school.
After searching many things, we finally realize that it is practically impossible to put him in Anglo-Chinese Junior or Rivervally Primary School.
Is there anybody who can comment about these 3 primary schools?
- Stamford (1 km from our home:central)
- Farrer Park (1.4 km from our home:Kallang)
- Balestier Hill (3.8 km from our home:Novena)
I found out these 3 schools are not so popular among the local parnents(by the way why??? ) which can be option for foreigners…
We cannot afford those international schools because once you start, you need to commit till highschool and oversea university…Any comment will be highly appriciated…
One more thing… is it better and easier to register him from P1 or we still have the chance to move him to the local school when he is P2 or P3?
We can send him a couple of years to the international school by scraching our pocket…
Our family will live in Singapore for long term and my boy will probably finish his highschool education in here… So the best option for him is to heading to local schools…
Many smart and experienced parents, please give me some advices~~~~~~
Thanks ! -
