The autistic boy was stopped by school leader as deemed to be running at the hard court when boy do not think so and did not stop. School leader pulled the boy's shirt and continued doing so despite being asked to stop by boy. Another boy following the school leader grab the boy's hand. Boy struggled and kicked. The school leader was injured. Boy is given suspension. Account given by boy. School send letter to inform boy injured a schoolmate. No one speak to boy to find out details when letter was given.

Was it the autistic boy that was given the suspension? It's a bit unclear. In any case, if the parent feels that there are facts that the school should have discovered before issuing the letter, he should approach the principal. However, the discussion should be calm and factual, not accusatory or angry, or the principal will get defensive.

Have to say that this kinda school really lacking in human touch.

Suspension is really too harsh for this kinda incidents, for this this case, extremely harsh on an autistic child.

Was the school pressure by the parents of the kid who was hurt? If they were pressured, only can say that they totally冇骨气

Oh dear, I think the parent should speak with the principal… Was the school leader badly hurt? Nevertheless, it sounds like an accident (unintentionally causing hurt) or at worst, a once-off incident. It’s very strange that the school resorted to suspension without investigating further.

Usually schools do not suspend a child based on one incident unless it’s violence towards the principal or vp.

Does the boy have a bad record (not necessarily documented) in school previously? Have the parents been previously informed of the boy’s misdeeds, if any?

The prefect pulled at the boy’s shirt in an attempt to stop the boy. However, the boy resisted the prefect, which showed that he was defiant to authority. That’s why another boy grabbed him. But the boy resisted further and became violent, resulting in the prefect’s injury. I wouldn’t use the word ‘retaliate’ as the prefect and the other boy weren’t attacking him. The boy was the one who struggled and became violent.

Unfortunately not many adults know how to handle an autistic child let alone another child.

              It was an unfortunate incident.

From the school's view, the student leader was hurt while doing his duty and he also has a witness.

I am unsure if the autistic child already has a record of some sort in the school but school could have just based on the words of the 2 students and dish out the punishment.

But irregardless of being autistic or not, the school could have done better by checking with all parties before deciding on any form of punishment.

Pity there is no CCTV in school (or is there 1).

I dont know how I feel if any of my children was subjected to be pulled at by the shirt by a student leader (unnecessary force) and handled by another student, regardless special needs or not. I feel that it is unacceptable for teachers to do such behaviours to students and neither should other students. Schools should encourage use of words and should have train the student leaders to seek help from the adults instead taking matter in his own hands. What if the autistic boy was hurt? If he fell while the students pulling him against his wishes? Would the student leader and other boy be suspended?

I think we should be very objective on this matter.

From what I know all schools will give children Many chance before suspension.
All schools will give many special privilege and attention to special child with special need.
like what 路人甲 mention, it takes special training and skill to handle autistics child.
So my main question is why is an autistic child in a normal school, if even a mild autistic child, many teachers will be inform, teachers will never let a child handle an autistic child. Is the school inform about the childs special needs or recognise it (with proper papers from doctors)?
If a child is autisitic, parents should not insist on sending the child to a normal school, the child will learn very little, and become disruptive and even endanger other innocent children.

if the school really treated a autistic child unfairly, it will be all over the news and papers. No school or Principal will ever suspend an autistic child unless it is above the "normal" seriousness.

Not all parents will kick a fuss. Nonetheless, it'll be good for the parents to settle it with the school coz we will unlikely to have the complete story here.

But from experience, usually the more eloquent kids will get away with crime coz not only can they come up with a believable story, they are Also usually well liked by teachers.

Agree that world is not fair and like you said, many times the "better" students words are more weighted, that is because of their consistent behavior.

But anything leading to suspension is a big thing, nothing will be taken lightly, any suspension goes all the way to the top because the number is so small and every single case have to be really prove beyond the need for suspension.

We are fortunate to live in Singapore where school children are treated equally, unlike many other countries where the parents power and wealth dictates how far school bullies can push the evelope
