I have heard of secondary school express stream start the sec 1 students

with pure sciences like pure biology, pure chemistry and pure physics. Is there any secondary school that start the sec 1 students with additional maths?

dd's time-table shows bio, chemistry and physics lessons, but there is no respective textbooks purchased on these subjects, merely the general science, so i am puzzling???

some IP school students use Add Maths text for reference in their sec 2 Maths work. I think it is to expose them early to related/basic Add Maths concepts and topics like Indices, Simultaneous substitution for quadratic equations, trigonometry, logarithm etc. IP students are expected to be independent learners, some schools do not enforce that they must have compulsory textbooks or do compulsory worksheets but students are self motivated to do more work on their own. šŸ˜„

this has been a common practice in many schools for a few years for lower sec science. Basically, when it's physics topics, a physics teacher will be teaching. Same goes for chem and bio.

This is because a physics teacher might struggle when it comes to bio topics as it is not something he is familiar with.

Such problems happen in tuition too. I encountered a parent who chose a tutor that can teach her son both science and math. However, that tutor is only good at bio. So chem and phy topics he asked the kid to study himself. The tutor can't teach math properly so in the end, he only managed a pass for science and math for Sec 2 SA2. However, it's cheap for the parent because tutor can do 2 subjects. But she regretted ever since.
