This is how I read to my kids, see if it helps you. At 1, just take a book, not more than a sentence each page. Read through it very happily and quickly and interestingly with the child on your lap. Don't test his understanding or anything. Key is to make it very interesting. Before he can process the page, go on to the next. He must not be bored. I can go through 20+ books on one seating with my kids when they were at about 1 to 1.5 years old. They keep asking for more. Don't worry about them learning to read. Just keep doing this day in day out. One day, they will read and love books. Surprisingly, all my 4 kids read books (like Chronicles of Narnia) at 4 years old.

hehe - read thru v quickly eh? Sounds like \"right-brain\" training. It works really. I read to my baby from birth and I discovered he could read both eng & chinese by the time he was 9mths old.

Eh..what is right brain training? I developed this method after reading some books... didn't know there is some cheem theory behind it. Your kids read at 9 months! :faint: Can't be just training, must be some smart genes at work as well!

Well, the read v fast and flip to next page, is similar to \"right-brain\" training. It develops the child's photographic memory?

I also use that way, but with baby, only need to do a little each day (2mins to 5mins max each day). I didn't do with the other kids.

Oi, 9 mths, cannot be right brain training lah. Must be genes! This is my theory cos that, what's his name, Sakamoto or some Japanese flip method? That one. Start at birth right? But how come no one else can read at 9 mths?

(Sorry, I never believed in right or left brain training cos I only got one brain :)).

Plenty lah - go see youtube, have babies that can recognise words & by 1+ year old or 2yo when they are verbal, you can see them reading out loud. I loosely follow Dolman, but didn't buy their kit. just read their book. Quite simple method.

We didn't use this with our older kids. So busy when you have several kids 2 or 3 years apart. In fact, my elder boys couldn't read when they started p1 altho' my eldest girl read at 4years old.

So no geniuses in our family (or ancestors). Cannot be genes only.

Like you, I like reading lots of journals & articles online, which is roughly what I do when I'm stuck nursing baby and want to catch up . haha.

Visited them in 1994 in Philadelphia. Saw that Glenn Doman guy. :stupid:

For my first boy, I followed the put him on the front when he sleeps. Well, he learnt to crawl at 3 months old. But then, I read some more stories about babies dying in their sleep, and mostly because of this posture, so I didn't do the same for the rest of the kids.

I still have lots of those flash cards. I bought tons there. The maths ones, the english ones etc etc. But never used them on any other kids except the first. No time lah.

I don't even know it works. Maybe it does... aiyah, too late now, like I always tell my kids, I'm a lousy mother... got things also don't use...
