There are still quite a few girls taking French/Japanese/German in upper sec. Not sure about the specifics for German though. Maybe your dd can check with her friends in her 3rd lang class.

Ok.Thanks for reply. For the subject combinations, my dd need submit her choices during Jul 13. They need to submit again on Nov 13 as well. If Nov 13 is different with Jul 13, how is the school arrange for these ? Please advise. Thanks a lot.

slmkhoo, your dd is back in sg and in school already? Welcome home! Hope she's settling in well. How about calling the general office for the info as no one on ksp seems to have the info you require?
Thanks! Yes, this is her 2nd week. She's fine and likes school, but is a little concerned about how much was covered in the first semester, with the EOY coming up in only 3 mths. Teachers and classmates are helpful, but things are a little less well organised than we would like as a lot of initial admin things like getting lockers, name tags, getting on the school wifi, CCA etc don't get done (or very slowly) unless we ask specifically. If not for a lot of info I've gleaned from here, we wouldn't even know what to ask. I guess they don't get many students joining mid-year, although there are 3 Yr 2 girls who joined this term. I think she will love being in the school once she settles in properly. We are in the midst of finishing renovations, which makes home life a bit messy too! -

To add on - is it necessary to have studied a particular science in order to do it in Yrs 5 & 6? Eg. if my daughter doesn't take Bio in Yrs 3 & 4, can she take it in Yrs 5 & 6? -

Glad to hear your dd's settling in and enjoying herself. She has some ex-schoolmates from primary school with her too, I'm sure? -

Thanks - what about Geography or History? Can she take one of them in yrs 5 & 6 if didn't take it in Yrs 3 & 4? She isn't sure which science to drop if she chooses only 2 sciences, but she also doesn't want to lose the option to take Geog/Hist, and she definitely wants to continue with Lit. I wish they wouldn't make kids make this sort of decision at 14yo.You need to have studied that particular science to take it in Years 5/6.

No, she doesn't know anyone from her Pr school in RGS, and in any case, she didn't make many friends in P6 as she was only there for 3 mths. She's really starting from scratch. -
You don’t need to have studied history nor geog to take either up at Year 5/6. Unlike the sciences. Has the school given the girls a briefing on subject combination already? If yes, your dd may have missed it.

Why triple science has more classes than the other subject combinations? any particular reasons? in terms entry to local or overseas university?

Because it's more popular. It has no bearing on entry to uni bec you can only do 2 sci at JC anyway. -

There was a briefing which we missed last term, but we saw the slides. It was more about the process rather than the link to choices at Yr 5 & 6, I think. I believe there will be another one given by someone from RI at some point.
