      phankao:

My daughter (sec 4) gets S$20 a week. Might do the same for my son
I am also thinking this is the correct amount.

But then what is the cost of a noodle or rice in NJC canteen ?

What about Jennifer, Just Mama, noob & the rest here in NJC, can share how much you think is the appropriate amount ?

      Thanks

I am adopting the wait and see approach. So starting with making him bring $5 to school. My boy does not eat much during breakfast and lunch (in pri sch,he brought only $2 and still had loose change).

I am topping up his ez-link and buying his stationery.

Since a few years back, I gave him a tub of coins and notes (think around $500 plus). He takes whatever he needs from there. So it should be a yearly allowance I am giving him which then works out to be around $10 per week.

We'll start with that first. I suspect, for my boy, might have to increase to around S$25 to S$30 a week bc he is a big eater. Can't tell from his size though!

My daughter's S$20 can even cover occasional class fund plus some purchases fr bkshop and she even manages to save. She doesn't eat quite much. And I doubt I would increase it now bc she has requested to bring bread/snack to school bc the holding school's canteen too small & crowded!

For the beginning part, wouldn't it be easier to monitor monthly (instead of yearly) ?

Think I'll start with $20 for my girl. She snacks a lot so not sure if this amount is enough. Since will be there on Monday, will check out food price at canteen and adjust if needed.

Re reading textbook & preparing for school --> Think i'm the worst, I have not gotten the uniform nor the books. Planning to buy all on Monday ... laziest mama šŸ™‚

Btw, can confirm if year 1 uniform is different from the rest? Bibibaba said not diff at first then later said colour is diff. šŸ˜ž

When you said \"this was the case\" means page by page or fast speed ?

Students are expected to read first, then attend lessons.

My boy is very sensible, no need to monitor. Just told him must make sure he eats enough good food, then can grow well and learn well. Better spend more on proper food than falls sick and visit doctor šŸ˜‰

My son tells me that eg. the Jap stall at NJC is like S$3+ per dish ... maybe I might need to revise amount. I think they stay until about 4pm except for Tues/Thurs, right?
