Hi Mummies,

care to share how is the study load at maris stella? keen to enroll my son in Phase 2B but worried that my son cant catch up with the school work?he is rather weak in reading and writing....

      thank you

very relaxed, no exams, no homework most of the time.

Interesting - my husband has a colleague whose boy is in P1 at Maris Stella and he seems to have more homework than his friend who is at Rosyth.

We will be registering our son next week and his brother will follow next year so I hope that \"scang\" is right :-)
not sure about your husband's colleague, and how his boy got so much homework?

Maybe different teacher has different method and style, but in general most do not give that much homework.

        Hi scang..

Are you sure .!! thank you if it is the case....i will be very relieve if that is the real situation cos in my era maris stella is kinda stressful.....
so how to the teacher guage their understanding and how is their Cl...cos its HCL rite?

May I know how is your son there...presume he should be happy ah ...my boy is kinda shy type so a bit concern if he can survive there...

Yes, there is no exam, for P1, and first half of P2 I think, due to the ever changing Education Minister and his philosophy of MOE curriculum.

There is CA or continuous assessment like tests, but other than that, hardly any homework. You probably need to plan some \"study\" or \"learning enrichment\" at home, else they will probably watch tv or play.

As for HCL, yes, probably at P1 it is still very much manageable, but this is up to individual child, but the later years, it will be much more difficult?

The environment is pretty much conducive, just be aware of any bully if any.

Hi Scang, are there major issues with bullies? I've come across parents commenting about similar problems in the other forum threads, it seems quite common in boys schools

Can anyone advise if the school provide the breakdown by distance or citizenship for p1 registration?

Hi, which phrase are you looking at ? From 2012 onwards, for 2c , all will be SC. From past history, there are balloting for 1-2 km every year. For 2B, there were no balloting last year. So may include PR . Can alway call the school to check the status during the period of registration .

              Hi mummies,

I am thinking of enrolling my son for the 2015 intake. Can I ask if the pri and secondary school share the same compound? My husband is worried that the "gangs" in the secondary school will come and "solicit/ recruit" the primary school boys, esp when they are in pri 5/ 6.

Hi everyone, my son will be attending MSHS next year. Got in under Phase 2A1. (Yes, I’m a former Marist). We live quite far away (Yishun) but I really wanted my boy to have a chance to experience the same school culture I did and also in hindsight it was a good move seeing how so many places are already gone to phase 2A in so many neighbourhoods.

Anyone else living in the area with kid(s) in MSHS?

                  Hi…

Anyone going to register under phase2B next week…would like to know if there is a screen that shows how many have registered and how many vacancies left??
I will be in Phase 2B but staying beyond 2KM…wondering if got chance to get in without ballot…think it seems to be 70 vancies for Phase 2B?
then i have to compete with those staying within 1 Km and within 2KM…wonder got chance to get in

                  Thanks

If you look at the history (http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/toa-payoh) it looks as if there is a reasonable chance it will go to ballotting given the uptake so far. For 2012, 45% of the places were take up by the end of 2a but it didn't ballot in 2B. For 2011, 49% of the places were taken up and it went to ballotting for those outside 2km. This year 53% of the places are already gone.

I remember seeing updates on the number of vacancies, posted on either a white board or screen, but can't recall exactly.

While there is still a possibility that phase 2B will complete without a need to ballot, my gut tells me that you will need to ballot for those staying >2km.
