He prefers yu neng and feng shan as his son can walks to the school on his own. for the other schools, the kid needs to take public transport. As there is no direct bus, his wife needs to accompany the boy to school. the transport will add additional burden to the family.

East coast pri, Damai are within walking distance too from what i see in your friend case...if he stay at blk 500+... but must be accompanied by parents/grandparents( at least 15-25min walk )..

I believe red swastika, yu neng and fengshan need to ballot.

I really pity those parents who stay within 1km or worst 500m and fail to get a place in any of the 3 schools.

My friend's flat is just 3min walk to yu neng, 5 min walk to fengshan and 10min walk to red swastika. If he cannot get into any of the 3 schools, it will be a nightmare for him as the nearest school like bedok green, da mai, is not within walking distance and there is no direct public transport to these schools . the cost of transport will definitely add burden to him as he is the only breadwinner in his family.

we have been staying in his block for past 30 years, and it is amaze to find the 3 schools around here have become so popular !
My 2cents, your friend should go for balloting at 2C since within 1 km. Who knows may lucky draw into the school of his choice. Singaporean double chance

That's how my friend's dd got into Pei Chun in Toa Payoh. Balloting. She didn't do PV. Her house stone throw from Pei Chun so she said just go and try her luck

The alternatives like bedok green & da mai, I suppose 2C sup would still have vacancies :scratchhead:

If your friend can't get into any of the 3 schools mentioned, ask him to seek Bedok mp's help for transfer.

          MP can't help.
According to principal of my kids' previous primary school, don't bother looking for MP. School received many such letters every year

            Strategies if being balloted out.

            1. Put on wait list at all these popular schools. (Passive approach, can't be too hopeful since wait list is likely to be super long).
Attach a portfolio especially if child has outstanding talent since who gets to top of wait list will be at school's discretion

            2. Do PV in school if you have a slightly younger child. Once younger child gets in, elder sibling better chance of transfer.

            3. Transfer using P1 result if result is excellent.
Meantime, continue to stay on wait list, email principal to stay in touch regularly (twice a year?) but not too regular till becoming a nuisance
May need to refurnish transfer request every year depending on school

I am surprised yu neng and fengshan are so popular. I know red swastika is of course popular. What other choices can we go for? I am singaporean.

i am surprised fengshan has become popular as their Psle results is not that outstanding....
Perhaps, it is more densely populated there ??
For Yu Neng, Yes, i know it has been gaining popularity.....

I have the impression Red Swastika's psle result isn't that outstanding either :scratchhead:
Although among these three, certainly the most popular one

But Red Swastika can't compare to Tao Nan or St Hilda's, the other two popular schools in the east, I think :siam:

If I have the opportunity, I will send my gal to RSS becoz of the values they teach. As it's a Chinese school, so it will help to reinforce the Chinese values. šŸ™‚

Fengshan is popular coz its the nearest school for all those children staying near there. In fact, my Mum told me that if N years ago, i din say i want to study at Temasek. She will just register me at Fengshan. Yu Neng has always been popular as far as i remember.
