Took a Myanmar maid from Uxxxxx Cxxxxxx Employment Agency. This is the 2nd time that I took from them. Their service and maids quality was good before their expansion.
The recent maid tt I took from them, was 23 years (according to them), after further drilling, only 21 years old. On the 2nd day, already tell me she want to go back to agent. Communication is really a problem, she can only say 3 or 4 words in English for the whole sentence. She cannot work at all, everything also dun know, my mum try to teach her, but…
We talked to her and told her that if she wants to learn, we dun mind spending the time to teach and will give her time and she agree. But after 1 week, she simply not doing learning and will just let my mum, dh and me do all the things. My dd also dun want her at all, if dd dun want her for her meals, bath and sleep, she will just walk away and will even show her frustration. After 1 week+++, woke up 1 morning and told me she cannot work, her hand painful, say she cannot wash clothes, I ask her, then what she want to do?? She simply keep quiet, onky after I kept asking her what she wants, she then say go back agent. And from then, she sat at her bed for 3-4 hrs, refusing to do anything, even when she sees me sweeping and mopping the floor.
This maid is definitely here to enjoy life, as she has showed my parents her photos in Myanamar. With the Angmos in the orphanage and wearing quite sexy clothes in the photos. I have sent her back to the agent and I had told them to refund me at least half the agent fees, since she is the one that wanted to be transferred and she is the one that is refusing to learn, but of course I have lost the battle… Because of all this, I have wasted $400 over and also my time…
Can anyone let me know, how can I inform MOM of the fact that these agents are violating the law by bringing in maids tt are less than 23 yrs old. I know that the agents are doing some things on their passport birthdates, but MOM should be doing something about it.
This agent is not trustworthy, as I had purposely waited for this maid till she turn 23 before bringing her, but she is still underage.
After my encounter, the agent service is bad, Never return my calls, never update me of the status. I have to keep on calling them to check etc etc.
My relative is also have a problem with them… Her maid is a transfer maid and has been told of the size of the house and the no of kids (3) which she has seen, before agreeing to work for her. After 1 month, say she cannot cope, say too many people and too much work. FYI, the house is a 2 storey house, with 3 adults and 3 school going children. She does not need to cook, as the kids lunch and dinner is cooked by the the grandmothers. She only need to do housework and clean up after the cooking. By 9am, she can rest already, as the employers will settled the kids themselves.
The maid called the agent secretly to say she wants to be transfer and they did not even let the employer know… and agree to let her be transfer.
I have since changed to another agent and have taken a Indo maid… so far she is ok… Willingly to learn and DD is okie to her. -

U r a good mom, u have very good foresight. It's just water, not acid....by overcoming the problem instead of skirting around it, we bring up stronger and tougher kidsHowever, I personally think that this is not a very good way to train a child. Start letting water flow over the face when the kid is young (when child could stand to shower) and the child will learn to hold he/her breath and push water away from the face with hands. With this method, the child can also start learning how to swim earlier.
My number 3 was \"trained\" this way - just let water flow over the face and the instinct to survive will kick in and the child learns to hold his/he breath and washing hair is much easier, cleaner and will not fear water so much.
Good for u!!

Nichei,
I also took a maid U…Cha… maid agency. Their service sucks and I can tell you I m always the one calling them. They don’t call me at all. They also treat their myanmar maids very well because I think their boss marries a myanmar girl. Nothing wrong with that but at least be fair to all parties and not be one sided. I will never go back to them again. Which agency you use now? Pls recommend. I’ll keep it for reference. -
Adam mom,
maybe you can get your child to lower his head when washing hair. The lower the better. Not much water will get to the eyes only the sides. Does he still scream if its at the sides? -

Not sure if I can pose my query in this string of discussion - anyone has maid whenever washing your child's hair (already 4 years old), your child keeps screaming and crying 'cos the water falls into his eye?
Maybe it's my son's problem or my maid's problem or myself too nervous and I mentioned to my maid to be more careful so not to get water in his face but seems not easy for her to do as she said then she can clean his hair very thoroughly.
My son then all these years doesn't feel comfortable and can't stay still when rinsing his hair probably 'cos he's so afraid the water gets into his eye and this makes the water even easier to get into his eye.
I had brought him a small shower cap for not letting the water to fall on the face but my son doesn't like to wear and as there's limited space in my house's bathroom, I can't ask my maid to hold my son horizontally so it's more safe to control the water flow but it'll be very tired for my maid to do.
After rinsing the hair, my son can quickly recover and stop crying but everytime I heard how he pleads not to put water on his hair, I feel like almost want to cry out and any one can give me some advices? Thanks your very much in advance.
Hi Adam, just jumping in. My son was fine with water running down his face at 1 & 2. He was doing a Mummy-and-son swimming lesson and was actually quite happy in the water. Then at 3yo, because of a change of teacher and methods, he became afraid of swimming including washing his hair.
What we did was not force it and we stopped the lessons. We tilted his head back etc to avoid any fear arising. I even let him wear goggles in the bath to make it fun and to distract from what he dreads. Gradually when he was 4, I found a very patient swim teacher who brought him round to putting his head back into the water again. He's 6 turning 7 and is a fairly good swimmer now - I totally forgot about his fear of water until I read your post.
Don't worry about this fear thing. Your son will eventually get over it (my standard line to myself is - I don't know any adult who doesn't do ___!). But since he's so worried now, you might want to try the goggle thing, and/or just avoid water on his face until he can forget about his fears, and then try again.
These things take time, so take heart! -

wah what happened? It sounds like absolute trauma...Then at 3yo, because of a change of teacher and methods, he became afraid of swimming including washing his hair.

Ya, their female boss is their kind .... If I am not wrong, Before their expansion, their trainers are filpino and indo in their house. Now they have training centres and their maids are trained by their Myanmar people, tt is why they cannot communicate in Eng at all. All in their own language.Nichei,

Thanks for the congratulations!! Its not the end yet because my new maid is still not here. In the meantime, I need to hang on.......
Actually this morning I was updating mygalfriend on my maid issue and we have also touched on this internet thingy. Infact, she told me her maid also uses the internet at night. so I must be \"outdated\" haha....luckily not expired. She told me her maid is hooked on Friendster recently and has since make many friends but because the computer is in her room, she can use the computer till the wee hours. The next day, she will wake up late and keep yawning away. Now, she's thinking of setting a curfew for her. Sounds a bit like our kid. I don't know about the rest of the mummies here but I find Friendster and Facebook very bored. So I hardly go there. I don't know why the maid would find Friendster addictive. Maybe generation gap!!!???
I also don't like facebook and I have deleted my account. Never used friendster. If the maid is like that, wake uplate and yawning all day long, I will definitely find a new maid who does not know how to use computer. Don't know why employers can tahan maids like that. We are not doing charity work. -

That maid probably thinks of herself as a good maid
maybe I'm just superficial, but she gives me the vibes that she wouldn't make a good maid....maybe not a bad person, but definitely doesn't fit my profile of what a good maid should be....hehetamarind:

It will be interesting to know what maid writes about their employers. If I setup a new section in my blog, I wonder how many maids will post their comments there ?

My son was exactly like that too. It was not the maid's problem. When I washed his hair, he screamed too. But a very good maid should be able to slowly teach him to be less fearful. With my current maid, my boy does not scream any more by 5 years old.Not sure if I can pose my query in this string of discussion - anyone has maid whenever washing your child's hair (already 4 years old), your child keeps screaming and crying 'cos the water falls into his eye?

One idea is to give your son a towel to cover his eyes when washing his hair. Or wear swimming goggles
Now that my boy has started to learn to swim, his instructor told me to spray water on his head when showering, he has to get over the fear.
