Dear all I'm in quite a pickle and I'm just wondering if any of you experts could comment
I have a dd 2008 and a dragon year son. I'm deciding between registering my dd for SCGS vs hong wen. We had more or less decided on hong wen due to proximity and priority in future for my son but I just found out that this year would see balloting for PV <1km. I rather not see my kids future to chance so I'm relooking at SCGS. In which case ill need to PV at Saint Andrews junior when my DS turn but surely competitive coz dragon year. Or should I just chance it?
An alternative would be to put my girl in SCGS for p1-2 and switch her to HWS at p3 but my girl isn't really the adaptable sort. Any advise appreciated.
Hmmm.... if you'd like yr son to go to Hong Wen, and he's in such a competitive year, then why not just register your daughter in Hong Wen?
Makes a lot of sense (logistically etc) to have both kids in the same school. Also not ideal to have to transfer a kid in pri school. Lots of adjustment with teachers and friends etc after she's barely gotten used to the school.
are you phase 2A for SCGS? Don't really understand your second half of query... so u mean if u go for SCGS for yr girl, you'll go for SAJS for your boy? -

PT has to ballot at Phase 2CS. Thats why I dont want to risk.BaconEgg:
Am thinking to give up balloting under Phase 2C NanHua for Phase 2C Peitong or Alexandra Primary. Good idea? Outside 2km of AP, reckon I stand a chance based on this year's statistics (after Phase 2C concludes)
Pei Tong historically had vacancies in P2CS, right? Since you don't mind your child studying in Pei Tong, why don't you try Nan Hua during P2C (I assume you stay within 1 km of Nan Hua) and, if unsuccessful (touch wood), proceed to Pei Tong in P2CS? :scratchhead: -
[quote="dimension"]hey frend, realise we quite similar situation. think prioritise distance would be good? its quite straining on the kids to travel so far? school bus also don’t solve problem of having CCA some days then the school bus cannot fetch; u need to ararnge for alternate transport. ru looking to move nearer RV? i guess unles su thinking of moving, best don’t subject your poor children to travelling so much for 6 years? unless u really can chauffeur to n fro?
the schools near your place ok or not? chances of getting in?
ya that’s the issue about distance and sch bus VS priority (confirm get in)
no lah, not gonna move house.
Hubby has a diff view. He said no harm taking sch bus, kid has to learn how to manage his sleep, homework etc. But I feel too early lah…heart pain.
Schs near my house, she be ok lah phase 2c…unless smth siao siao happens -

I heard PT has already have a steady number of PV..
Maybe if i should go do pv there too -

yes i want to register my DD in HWS but not cfm go in even if i PV and within 1km. do u think i should chance it for sake of my dragon boy? means if ballot dun get will go some unknown school dunno where

SCGS> yes phase 2A. if she go scgs i'm tinking either pull her out in p3 transfer to HWS (for boy) or i can PV again at HWS (near) or SAJS (further) for him
i guess my priority is distance + chance of getting in -
dimension:
your girl if go SCGS...she will have affiliation benefits to go to SCGS......if your pull her out for ds, you will lose that affiliation for your girl...

hmm think nid to consider that when having CCA will be inconvenient coz school bus will not fetch then? u're not intending to try for phase 2B? seems 2C chances are quite tough for schools my side. not sure about yours tho. i'm also within 1km. even phase 2B oso must ballot :nailbite:

understood but i'm told dragon years are really impossible?

we did try for rabbit baby but missed and kena dragon lolx
i'm worried even PV for SAJS/HWS also maybe cannot make it in -
dimension:
Hmm... if I were you, I wouldn't 'sacrifice' my daughter's chance of getting into and staying in a gd sch like SCGS... it's quite tough for others who would like to get in so if you have 2A, should not waste it?

Then for yr son, when it comes to his year, then see what he can get into? PV if it helps?
Otherwise, if you try for HW for yr daughter, and not successful, kinda disadvantages her too. -
thx for ur input!!
factors going against SCGS would be distance + separate school (inconvenience to my kids caretakers who are totally against the idea of her going SCGS
). i do agree that it does seem 'wasted' and like 'unfair' for my girl to pave my boy's path hor... furthermore IP lehh!! arghhh no nid stress for PSLE + Olvls!!
PV for my boy is non-issue haha i dont mind to contribute to the schools my time if can get my kids placement. unlike most ppl against PV i think its good chance to know the school better b4 committing my kids 6 or more yr of education there. of course then comes the problem of finding the time... :skeptical: but if he can go SAJS oso good. another IP then no nid headache over PSLE + Os... haha seem like ideal solution hor but then if cannot get in how?? :frustrated:
ya worse case scenario would be fail to get ballot for phase 2b and 2c despite 40h PV and giving up phase 2A chance of entering scgs...
ultimately for kids convenience i think 1st choice is still HWS la... now headache is coz phase2b <1km oso no guarantee... hai so sad
