We visited a relative's house. Cluster house at YCK area. The bedrooms were terribly small.... The master bedroom can only accomodate a queen size bed with little walking space. Don't have to mention about the other bedrooms (which they have 5). It was worst. This appeared to be the trend for all new houses.

The older cluster houses like Horizon Gardens, Shaughnessy, Springhill, etc have bigger rooms.

      Hi ooptimizer,

The older ones, yes, I've been told. In fact, DH's relative stays in Springhill and I was told that his place is really nice.

Anyway, to each his own πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„

At the rate our HDB flats are costing now, I really think that by the time our children grow up, they CANNOT afford a HDB flat anymore.

        What are your contigency plans?

I have only ONE DS so maybe will leave behind my place to him.
What if I have another one in future? How?? :?

make sure they can afford one?

In every year, at every age in history, there are always those who cannot afford...our duty as parents is to die-die make sure they do not end up as one of those...

no matter how expensive the flats, their prices were pushed up by someone, whether foreign or local....if someone has the ability to buy them, why not our kids?

i will not leave behind my flat for my sons; it will only breed complacency.
i will offer rooms for them to stay with their wives until they are ready make that big hdb purchase.

The law of supply and demand will dictate that prices of property will be constrained by people’s ability to afford them. There will be segments of the market that are driven by high-end buyers and defy gravity, but the likelihood of the majority of Singaporeans being priced out of buying a home is very unlikely.

                  well-said....

while housing here is definitely not cheap, I wouldn't say it's not affordable. Try living in HK or Tokyo?

Think Australia/US has very cheap houses? Try getting one within 30min drive of the city centre and see if it's very much cheaper than SG....

Get those cheap huge ones in the surburbs and try driving 1 hour to work everyday, see your petrol bill skyrocket.

Get tough, Life ain't easy for those who ain't tough!!

                    insider:
Ownership of houses/flats is still the norm currently. In the next 1 or 2 generations, rental of houses/flats will be the norm I guess.

Actually sometimes I think not very worth slog till ripe old age to pay a house/flat fully. Life's short...
well-said...but Asians have a very deep-set insecurity complex...unless they own the roof over their heads, they don't feel \"safe\" lol

What do we really own anyway? We came into this world naked and will leave the world without the clothes on our backs...every material possession is actually \"on loan\" πŸ˜‰

When I was in Sydney, my colleague related to me that they are trying to do renovation works on their house so that their daughter can stay with them after she got married.

The trend is that due to the higher cost of housing, youngsters are now choosing to stay with parents. A trend reversal?

Imagine that Dawson Flats at around $650K. Income limit is $8k per family. How many people can really afford the kind of flat? Everyday have to eat onions for 3 meals? :?:
