      Hey seasoned parents,

Are enrichment lessons really necessary? Don't they teach them all they know in schools already?
This is very subjective question. The school will teach them all they need to know. In the event that the child has problem coping, the teacher will also provide tuition. Never have I encountered a teacher who ask us to seek help externally. I know of a top P1 student this year where her parents do not believe in any enrichment classes at all.

Personally, I am a kiasu parent. I send my kids to enrichment class so that they are expose to a subject matter in advance and when they see it in school, they are able to cope with it easily. Enrichment classes also tend to teach in advance.

Again, this is my personal opinion, being a FTWM it's challenging for us to guide the kids entirely in their studies so by sending them to such classes, we are leaving it to the experts. Also really depends on your child, some child are by nature motivated and bright but how many children are like that? It's very competitive nowadays, if the child does not belong to the self motivated and driven type and if they are in a environment where most of their friends have learnt \"extras\", they may not do as well as their peers. But again, this voice down to parents' expectations and child's calibre.

For instance during my girl's time (2 yrs back), the P1 are expected to do written expression (mini compo) for their SA1 exam. This is challenging for most kids but there are some kids who were able to write grammatically perfect sentences and good 8 sentences story too. This is for P1!!!

        Hi parents,

I found a spelling list from my son's bag this evening. But the list only state a period of a week, no specific dates. That means the spelling is going to be on a randam day during the week right ?

Any parents with older kids can enlighten me?

There should be an assigned day for the spelling. For my kid’s class, it will be tested every Tues. hth

Hi baong, my P1 son brought a spelling list back too. His teacher had told them the spelling day for his class. You might want to check with your son (P1 too?) or his teacher.
If your son is P1 too, just out of curiosity, are the words for the 1st week the numbers? Wondering if all the classes have the same list.

thanks I think have to check with my son, yar hor coming to think about it I din check with him when he came back this evening 😉

csb, yes first week's list are the numbers so in that case I think the list is the same for every class. I'll check around tomorrow when I perform my volunteer duty and make a post here. 😄

                  Hi,

All kids will have the same list. Eg. for my P2 this year, the list is the same as what my P3 had last year. This also happens when he was P1.

There is a specific day. If the child is unable to confirm, suggest that you sms the teacher to confirm. Saw that my P2 teacher had included her contacts in the timetable.

I’m having the same issue with my P2 tingxie… no dates and he kept saying it will start next week but dunno which day. Wonder if any existing P2 parents can confirm.

                      Hi vlim,

Thanks. At least, I know he is \"telling the truth\" that tingxie is next week. I was getting jittery.

Which CL class is your girl in???? My boy is in CL8 and I am wondering if they have tingxie on the same day.

My girl is in CL3. Her spelling is on every thursday. This year she seems to be more tense. She said the teacher told them if they keep forgetting to bring books to school, they will be punished. So she is very worried as the first week she had forgotten to bring 2 things to school..poor girl. She also pretty worried about the tingxie as now they need to write more words compare to p1...
