In CHIJ LQOP , if the child is catholic and stay > 1km, which Phase will she in??

Hi. Anyone with their DD in CHIJ Katong? Just wanted an update as to the general ethos of the school. I'm an old girl of the Opera Estate branch 30+yr ago( OMG, it's been that long!) and I had a great time there with very caring teachers that I still bump into now and then.


But there was a pretty distinct discrepancy in terms of academic performance and girls' demeanor between the better classes vs the not-so good classes. I don't think it was the school's deliberate intention to segregate according to performance, but some how it turned out so.

My main concern is that in the upper primary levels, are the girls overly precocious / too \"hiao\" / have disciplinary problems? Katong Convent secondary, unfortunately, suffer(ered?) from this reputation, so my mum is dead against my already \"hiao\" 4 yr old joining CHIJ katong.

Being catholics, I would love her to be in a catholic school. I stay fairly near so CHIJ katong would be a logical choice. I just need some reassurance that my girl won't grow up wild! Tks in advance

My DD just started pri 1 this year at CHIJ Katong Convent, \"being hiao\", I am not sure yet, cause she has being always been interested in the way she dresses up. Isn't that what girls are all about :roll: , I remember doing it when I was their age. DD likes the sch so far, as for sec sch, we have intended to put her in a mixed sch, not so keen in CHIJ Sec, not because of the \"wild\"thing its just because that we prefer her to get adjusted into the BGR, in a good way.

I'm a former student of CHIJ. Transferred to CHIJ Kellock in Feb 1983 and then moved to CHIJ Toa Payoh in 1984. OMG, that was 26 years ago :shock:
This year, my daughter is due for P1 registration. CHIJ Bukit Timah would definitely be nearer but it's not affiliated to IJ Toa Payoh, and as such she will be under Phase 2C. So we would have to register her at IJ Toa Payoh
and pray hard she would be able to get in

Just wondering why CHIJ schools are not affiliated to one another.

Hi. Thanks for the input. I know it’s just a girl thing to want to dress up and I think that’s natural and ok. What I don’t want is too much peer pressure to be "cool"… dressing provocatively, smoking, girl gangs… that sort of thing. It used to be irrelevant in pri school during my generation, but I really am not so sure about the P5s and P6s nowadays.


And wrt to the BGR thingy, hubby doesn’t really mind a mixed sch at primary level but is dead against a mixed secondary school. He says that hormones are running amok then and there’s not sane and safe way to reign them in accept to keep the girls and boys apart… hahahaha! I tend to agree so I will keep my options open with the primary school but hopefully get her into an all girl sec sch when the time comes.

Hi Es mummy,

My daughter loves to dress up. I guess it's natural for a girl to be vain. She would open her cupboard every day to see what clothes she has. I'm partially at fault for buying clothes frequently :oops: but it's hard to resist when girls stuff are so pretty. BTW, I have an older boy. He's 10 this year.

Girls mature earlier and though I don't know when her puberty starts, but it would be better to be in an all girls environment.
As for secondary school, it's even better to be in an all girls environment as that is the age hormones peak and crushes begin. I agree with your hubby about 'hormones running amok'. HaHaHa.

hi, my gal spent a few yrs at CHIJ katong
being \"hiao\" or not, i can't comment lah........
but i really can't stand the sight of their lowly belted pinafore
did u see the st nick girl who appeared on TV during the release of their \"O\" level results......OMG
also u can easily spot the lowly belted pinafore girls on streets too
wonder do their discipline mistresses do anything abt it.....
