Every year NHPS phase 2B can take in 40-42 kids. I just wonder how many PV they take in for 2010 registration to see how is the chance. Anybody has any insider news? I have yet to complete the required hours.
The schools I know of that take in PV usually has an estimate of Phase 2B places and so take in number of PV accourdingly, plus, unspokenly, those staying far away are not accepted for PV, in case need to ballot - sure to be unsuccessful - so do not want the PV to feel cheated or disappointed eventhough it is stated very clearly that being PV is NO guarantee of a place, though they try to gauge the vacancies as best they could -

If the grandfather is a member if a clan but not the father of the child, will priority still given to the child?
Of course. Especially if the schools are in high demand. Even if you offer yourself for free they also dowan.lovebearsallthings:
I didn't know that some schools actually interview you before they decide if they even want you to do 'volunteer service' for them!
btw, what do you mean by 'belong to the clan'? Are you talking about 'old boy/old girl'?
By clan, we are referring to the associations set up for the various dialect groups, eg. the Hokkien Huay Kwan is for Hokkiens, the Hainan Huay Kwan is for Hainans, etc. There are certain schools affiliated with these clans, and they take into account clan membership in giving priority to members looking to send their children to affiliated schools. -

No dear, either the father or mother got to be a member of the clan to get priority registration.

Yes as long there is balloting, u must be prepared that u are one of the unlucky ones, no matter whether u stay 10m or 1km from the school.unless it is ballot, else quite strange that within 1km and done PV yet unable to get in.
If ballot and failed, then can only blame own's bad luck.
My advice is if this school has a history of balloting under 2B for those staying within 1km, pls go offer ur PV service to another school. No point lamenting about ur bad luck after u dont get a place when u know in the first place that the chances of balloting is high.
Of coz if there were no balloting under 2B within 1km in the previous years and it happened in ur year of registration and u dont get a place, then my condolences.... -

Thank you Luanee.
I am actually not familiar with Singapore Education System. Could you or anyone please assist on the following:
1) Is PeiChun or St Nicholas affiliate to Hainan or Chung Hwa Hwee Kuan?
2) If my husband just join the huay kuan now. Would it give our gal priority registration? She is born in 2005 so that means the registration will be next year rite?
Thank you very much!!

1. i'm not sure about pei chun but for st. nicholas, it is affiliated to churches, not huay kuan.1) Is PeiChun or St Nicholas affiliate to Hainan or Chung Hwa Hwee Kuan?

2. membership alone will not get you the letter that allows you to register your child in phase 2b; you will need to be a member for a no. of years and be active. lastly, the huay kuan schs are very popular so even if you get the letter, there may be balloting at phase 2b so there is no guarantee. for more info on registering via huay kuan, pls look under the sticky thread for clans in this same forum.

For 2005 children, they will be starting P1 in 2012. So registration is in 2011, not next year.2) If my husband just join the huay kuan now. Would it give our gal priority registration? She is born in 2005 so that means the registration will be next year rite?
Please read the thread on http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=243. It was mentioned that at times when available places are very limited, priority will be given to \"older\" (in terms of years as a member) members. -

Bigdevil.... I think you are still in 2009???? Next year is 2011.[For 2005 children, they will be starting P1 in 2012. So registration is in 2011, not next year.
