All About Full-Time Maids

I agree that the attitude of the maid is far more important than the quality of work. I send back my Filipino maid of 6 years about 2.5 months back. She was good for 1st contract, I closed one eye for her 2nd contract, closed 2 eyes for her 3rd contract. I kept her not because she was good, it’s because I resist changes, I was afraid that my boy will resist a new maid. But I was so so wrong.


My ex maid of 6 years pushed me when trying to snatch back her work permit. In a fit of anger, I immediately bought an air ticket and within 2 hours, she is out of my house. That was the best decision I ever made. I survived 1.5months without a maid and surprisingly, my house was much cleaner even without a maid. Now I got myself an ex-sin Indo maid, she is so far so good and gets along with my boy.

Recently I went to my friends house, her maid told me that months ago, my ex-maid told her that I need her alot, my household cannot survive without her and that I will never send her off. That explains why she was so arrogant. She thought I could not survive without her, I have proved her WRONG!!! I urged all employers, DO NOT put up with your maid just because you are afraid of changes. We should not be at their mercy.[/quote]

I agreed. I always remind my maids that no one is indispensible and everything that they do, I used to do it previously.

The intervals without a maid are physically tiring but are important because it ensures that I do not become too dependent on a maid. These periods of discomfort are important for me to widen my comfort zone.

This may be something that you need to specifically teach or tell her to do so as social graces or good manners may not be something that they are familiar with. We may take it for granted as a "should know" but it is not necessarily so.


My maids are fresh so I need to teach them quite a bit, like I teach my kids - clean teeth twice a day, wash hair daily, greet visitors, …

Not acceptable, it is basic courtesy to greet people you meet. Even a child knows this.

Then please send her back. My maid said that to me many times, I am glad I really did send her back, but not to agent but straight to the airport.

Your maid is telling you in your face, loud and clear that she will behave and do what she feels like, if you are not happy, send her back to agency. She is not interested in working for you any more.

I would buy her an air ticket, on the day of departure, ask her to pack and send her home.

Doesn't bother me as it feels a bit formal. I expect my children to say \"good morning\" and to greet me when I come home but I'm not bothered about the maid. She's usually busy when I come out in the morning and when I come home anyway.

I dnt like to be greeted by maid in the morning cos my mornings are nevr good so I dnt want them to greet me goodmorning.
I did tell some of my past maids not to greet me but I prefer the maid to say goodnte.

I tell all my maids to greet good morning and good night, greet guests etc. I think it sets a good example for the kids.

My current Phil maid only greeted in the morning for one month plus. After that, she does not greet at all.... Except on her pay day.
