All About GEP Schools

KSP:
Acc to MOE, GEP is top 1.5% students who passed the 2nd test and HA or High Ability is the top 1.5-5% students identified from the same test. For schools that offer intermingling classes or High Ability classes, these kids are invited to join the HA classes which has an \"enriched mainstream curriculum\".GEP are for students who passed the 2 rounds of screening test during P3 and invited by MOE to join the GEP class offered in the selected 9 schools.
HA are usually the top 1 or 2 mainstream (non GEP) classes of the level in any school. These are the classes whereby the teachers teach faster and more than others.
In addition, there is also High Achiever (also called HA) classes which are grouped based on their P3 or prior year's overall results.
Trust it is not too confusing

Do you think the intermingling class implementation is a waste of time?
My dd thinks so. She said it does not help them. She said mainstreamers sometimes donβt pay attention in class, get scolding and complain that teacher prejudiced against them. This cause an invisible wall between the 2 groups. dd thinks both group would rather not mingle. But I think mainstream parents like this idea. I thought this whole thing was a knee-jerk reaction after all the slamming GEP kids around 2007. They think intermingling humbles the GE kids but sometimes the mainstreamers more Atas leh!
I think what humbles my dd was her involvement in her CCA where the kids come from diverse academic ability. I think, MOE should end the intermingling, after all itβs only for PE, Music and Chinese . -

criteria for becoming a GEP school is not based on distance - dispersion
Maybe it should be? Aren't all schools supposed to be good schools? So what other criteria can there be - better principals, teachers or facilities
? Or is that all a lie? Or have they done some secret research that shows that the majority of 'gifted' kids live around there?

as you suggested, most likely a lie together with secret research under ISD. satisfied ? -

Good. So, we are agreed that not every primary school is equal in terms of principals, teachers and facilities. Now, we can move on instead of pretending that it is all the fault of kiasu parents why primary school registration is so stressful for parents every year, because that is really insulting to parents all over Singapore. -

Dear Parents,
Would you mind enlighten me abt the GEP test which I finds it very confusing. Is it true that all neighborhood school students will also b taking the GEP test to find out who are the children that are eligible to enter the GEP class? Suppose if they do, will they be asked or invited to go into a GEP school? -

The first round of GEP test, all schools will encourage students to take the test. If child manage to get in 2nd round, they will be inform by school.
