      Lets say…

if you have an upper primary school kid who can self-study but only manages 70+ marks, would you send the kid for tuition to hit 85+ marks? if so, even if the kid manages well for the psle, when will the tuition end? all the way through to JC? or would ‘study-techniques’ (eg mindmap etc) courses more beneficial in such cases?

By looking through this post, I felt that teachers in schools are not doing their job, they are expecting the child to be well prepare before the teaching.

What happen to those delicate teachers who go the extra mild to teach the weak. I do not see these happening any more. Once your child is left behind, parents are told to give tuition.

            KSmama,

I bought him a comic book with both Chinese and English translation and that quickly became his favorite book, torn and tattered and usual, but this time really well thumbed as would happen to the books he love.

            hi ChiefKiasu,

Can you tell me the name of the book and where to get it ?
My P1 son is interested in the 3 Kingdom too. But, because his chinese is limited, we actually have to read to him. The book you bought your son sounds like what we need to get for him !

                hey(:

i’m from RGS and was from rosyth (GEP), and i just want to share my experience with parents here abt tuition.

hmm. actually i have to say that many of my peers dn hv tuition, and they are doing okay in rgs.

personally, I have had english tuition since K1, and I stopped in P1. that was because I come frm a chinese-speaking family & I guess my mum’s worried abt my english (which eventually turned out to be one of my best subject).
I registered for the learning lab when I was primary 3, but I was put on the waiting list, and almost amazingly- once I went into the GEP prog., they admitted me immediately and I was placed in a pretty gd class with a gd timeslot- on sundays. I must say that the learning lab is really gd, but like what they said in the news, it seems to me that the learning lab only admits ppl frm the so-called elite schs (which was why when I got into GEP, they admitted me immediately). The learning lab’s explanation for this is that they have more classes for the "advanced"…
but anyway, despite that, I would still recommend the learning lab to parents. I think it would be advisable to start english tuition with learning lab at primary 1,2 (the younger the better, easier to get a place there) and maths at primary 5-6 (their maths is really gd- I’ve tried it. but not the secondary sch maths) and probably science too (though I didnt try it before)

yupp, that’s all I have to share. and right now, the only tuition I have is still english tuition with the learning lab. 🙂

                  Hi

I have faxed my boy enrol form for English lesson to Learning Lab 4 days ago and was told that they will get back to me in 3 weeks time. My boy will be P6 next year and he is in Ai Tong Sch not GEP. Now really pray hard that he is able to get in, his score 80 in English this year.

From wat I read, seem that chance is slim.

hmm actually there is a chance for your child to get in, but perhaps in a weekday afternoon/night class since the weekend classes are really full.
