May I know how much is the homework? Today DS only has the following homework:
8 Maths problem sum
Correction on Chinese Comprehension OE
3 Science OE questions -

I already wrote in to get take her out of supplementary lessons for the whole month leading to PSLE when she was down for high fever last week. DD does not have enough time to rest due to the mountains of homework from all subjects on an average day that she has to complete.. what more to rest or sleep.. That has contributed to her immune system breaking down after holding out this long. I am also factoring in the importance of her being in tip-top shape (healthy) so with afternoons off supp, I am hoping she won't fall sick again anytime soon. The weariness of their daily more than 12hrs routine is taking a toll on their mind and their body.buds:
I share the EXACT same thoughts, Verysuperkiasu.
At least I'm not alone...but seriously contemplating calling the school for this drastic step. Has anyone ever homeschooled their chn few weeks before PSLE?
Sometimes I dunno if the teachers care whether they get rest or not because they are pushing the kids to the edge. I have no choice but to intervene to find some balance at this crucial juncture. :xedfingers: -

I feel the same way too...... way too much homework even during prelims week now !This may sound crazy to some of you....but I feel like pulling out my child out of school for this one remaining month. There's just so much homework now, on top of supplementary classes. Even as I'm typing, dd is still doing her homework. Everynight is the same. weekends worst!
I know where her weak areas are - from her prelim exams - but I have absolutely NO TIME to revise with her , or help her brush up the weak areas.
I really feel like homeschooling her now till PSLE.

my son didn’t attend supplementary lessons last year…after a whole day in school, he was already tired, hungry and uncomfortable…there were suppl lessons 2x a week (sometimes 3x) till 330 or 4pm…i took him out, assuring teachers i am taking the responsibility but was still hounded. but the LAST sprint towards the ACTUAL exams was one crucial one…if he got burnt out, that’s as good as not sitting for the PSLE.

Will the teachers actually mark the homework? Will they care whether it's actually done? If not, then let your child leave it unfinished. You can select the parts which seem most useful and ignore the rest. If the teacher queries, explain your concern that your child is not getting sufficient rest. You can also decide not to let your child attend supp. classes as long as you explain your views to the teachers and are willing to absolve the teachers of any consequences. Keeping your child at home may not be the best idea now as it breaks the child's rhythm, and having companions in this run-up to exams is a good thing. Some kids are so used to keeping up with all school demands that you may also have to convince your child that overworking is also a bad thing. My child never needed convincing of that! This may sound crazy to some of you....but I feel like pulling out my child out of school for this one remaining month. I think many teachers are caught between a rock and a hard place. I know some parents who complained that my daughter's school was too laid back and didn't give enough homework. Those parents will blame the teachers for not pushing enough if their kids don't do well. Others like us will blame teachers for overworking our kids. So I decided that I would decide what was too much for my kid and take responsibility for the consequences. -

Cut down on spicy and oily food.

Some kids are efficient & fast worker, some like to procrastinate or dilly dally. Some kids need more hours of sleep, some less.
So Yes. I take the responsibility for deciding how much work & rest dd will get too :). -

Hey! Isn't it the same for adults too! :scratchhead:
