Hi parents, i am trying to buy a PC/Laptop for the house. is there a preference in Maris? meaning … I was thinking of a Mac, but i am worry if school teaches windows… please help me. i hope my question is not too stupid.

i thnk my son uses windows in school. nto sure if they have macs. must go home to ask.

Mac can double up as PC .... meaning it can run windows and ms office programs, etc. You can configure your machine to run both.

MSHS uses Mac. That’s been the case for many years. But you needn’t have to match what the school uses. Youngsters are very adaptable. You should assess what you are really buying the computer for.

Never heard of that. Not until the boys get to the secondary section, they’re expected to buy a MacBook for use in school.

I am a new member, I just joined kiasuparent.com last evening. I am on the waiting list to transfer my son to the MSH. He is currently P2. Really appreciate if any parents here can share with me:

1) Was reading from this forum (the earlier pages) that it was entrance test and changed to interview in 2009 (if I remember correctly). Is there a reason for the change that anyone might know?

2) Any idea what sort of questions they will ask the child?

3) How do you know if you are selected for interview?

4) How are the boys like? Do they embrace newbies?

5) How is the current principal’s leadership? How about his interaction with the children, is he a ground person or nowhere to be seen? How about his interaction with teachers and parents?

6) Is MSH a high profile type of school or low? High profile means the school likes to be in the limelight.

7) Does the school demand heavy parental involvement in school events? If so, what is the frequency of commitment? And what sort of involvement?

We are eyeing on MSH for our boy in 2015 so would like to know what are our chances at Phase 2B (church affiliation) if we stay out of 2km?

Min 20 vacancy for phase 2C. But if this is the case, likely to ballot within 1km. This year, there were 70+ vacancy, already ballot at 1-2km. From Next year onwards, I suspect that it would be more competitive due to parents using Bartley Residences address[/quote]

Looking for some help from current parents to avoid me making the same mistake that I made with my daughter when buying uniform.


For P1 do the boys wear PE kit for the days that they have PE? If so, how many days a week will that be?

For my daughter I didn’t realise and bought 4 sets of uniform and 2 of PE kit but she ended up wearing her PE shirt 3 times a week! By the end of P1 the PE kit was worn out and the blouses looked like new

Any other tips on things we should/shouldn’t buy? Things you wish you had bought more or less of?
