      ngl2010:
I brainwashed DS that Whatsapp is wasting time. FB is also wasting time (Legal age for FB is 13 years old anyway. So I used this as an excuse 😉 ).

The school is using Edmodo to communicate with children so I let him use it but I monitor closely. Most of the time I was the one that check Edmodo and tell him if there is new homework or project communication from his classmates.

I guess it is easier to ban him using those since he is a boy 😉
Yes, seems like girls have a higher tendency to be hooked on such tools as they are generally more social.

We sound like the exception here. The kids have smartphones (dd1 has one of the latest HTC phone which my 19 year old nephew was asking her what has she done to get it :? ). I told nephew that it's not my idea. Dh see it more of a communication tool. dd1 also has dataplan as she inherited my line. They have it since P4. The 2 older ones usually hold the phone from morning till evening. They \"surrender\" their phone every night. This is the time that I would do spot check. The P2 only have access to her phone on weekends.

Though dd1 has whatsapp, FB and instalgram and lots of messages on whatsapp, I observed that she is not very active in posting comments. Which to me is a good sign as it shows her level of addiction. They will usually play some games on the bus. Once home, I don't see that level of addiction so far as they know the consequence of it.... mum will confiscate their phones. So don't play play. Once they are home, they usually leave their phones in the living room and don't carry it around with them.

We have seen how my nephew's addiction to computer games led him to struggle academically so this is the last thing we want. The only time they can play freely is when the nieces and nephews are here (family gathering). They can play together to their heart's content. Normal days, they know it's a big no no for me if they are caught playing on their phone regularly. This applies to weekends as well.

Actually the same as PSP, etc... those games along the way. We have those at home but kids can only play during school hols. It come to a point that during school hols, they don't even \"yearn\" for it anymore. It reminds of a friend who visited Africa and they even took up close pics with roaming tigers. Heard that it is fine because there are too much food for those tigers so there is no desire to eat the tourists. So yes hoping that kids respect and view hp as a communication tool rather than an addiction.

Your girl is in P2? Perhaps too early to tell, cos at that age, no many of classmates would have a phone or tablet yet, so less likely for her to be drawn in yet. As for the boys, they usually keep to games, which I find not so dangerous. Yes, they get hooked in the games, but it is like a hobby. The socializing is the dangerous one, I feel.

That’s not a game. That’s life in cyber space.

If you think of a remedy pls do share 😂 dd lost most marks in these 2 section too. IMHO, there is no quick fix, they need to read extensively then should automatically do well ... Dd still squeeze in time to read .... So I secretly hope that subconsciously she is building her language skill :nailbite:

My end of a blooper was : DD was told she was supposed to be in session two when her entry proof and individual schedule sheet clearly showed session one!

She was told to go home and then come back agn. Can u believe it?

I got freaked out when I saw her at home!
aiyo, me too for the 2nd day of oral as well! I was so worried that he got the session wrong becos it was handwritten by him! 😓

                      Luckily, no such thing.... :faint:
