Hi Gabriel, i understand your points, but personally, I do not think a teacher with only grade 7 is qualified to teach, even for beginners. Passion is important, but it does not alone qualifies a teacher. Just my two cents worth.I did a short writeup on sourcing for a good piano teacher in Singapore over here at my blog http://www.gabrielyeong.com/2013/05/choosing-piano-teacher-in-singapore.html
Hope it helps! -
Opinion please - I called up a school 5 times at different timing (first 4 call no one pick up, manage to get through on 5th call. I got my question answered. After 5 min, I got the call from the school again. The staff or boss?? First question is questioning and kind of complaining to me saying she had been trying to call me and her boss MSG her 6th times cause she haven’t call me back and what is it regarding that her boss need to MSG her so many times to reply the call? And she is telling me she is very busy and altos of things to handle? There is a guy still waiting for her for 30min at the counter. Lastly, she said so she actually attended to my call earlier on and she is going to tell her boss she attended to my call.
I call back and ask her why does she needs to tell me all these? And what’s worse, in the end, I may continue the lecture and she is busy. If nothing more, she is going to hung up.
Can people please enlighten me, is there anything wrong with calling again when no one pick up? Or am I doing something wrong? Or am is this the school attitude?
Highlight- it is a school at bugis, they are selling mostly digital piano and teach by hearing

When engaging a new piano teacher, do he or she needs to bring along his or her cert so I can know the teacher qualification? What to expect during the first lesson?

If you wish to verify the teacher's qualifications, you can request that the teacher to bring his certs. Normally teachers don't voluntarily show their certs. But when parents want to see them, the teacher should not hesitate to let potential parents view them. -

I think the problem is some schools have poorly trained counter staffs; the owners or teachers themselves often take turn for counter duty. I've had my fair share of dealing with black-faced counter staff in music schools. As long the teaching quality is good and the necessary admin is being done, I wont mind.Opinion please - I called up a school 5 times at different timing (first 4 call no one pick up, manage to get through on 5th call.
