Went Chiangmai & Chiangrai in 2006. I loved the trip there. There are many things for the kids to see, especially if their are like 5 and above. I went when DS was only 1yr and DD 3yrs old.

Elephant shows and rides, silkworm factory, pottery factory, orchid farm and I think the queen’s palace which has a garden that is so nice. Weather is cooling but not cold. We went to the golden triangle, visited the long necked tribe and also the opium museum. Saw how they got the silk out of the silkworm cocoon. Saw how they hand made those paper umbrellas. Went to the highest spot and the northern most part of Thailand and cooked some eggs in some hot spring somewhere, cannot remember where. Haha.

All in all, a different experience from the usual Thailand that we know, beaches and shopping.

Have nvr been to Chiangmai & Chiangrai before. Is it better to do F&E or with package tours? If F&E, easy to book day tour? If package tour, pls recommend the tour agency. TIA

            Hi babyJC,

If is a family trip, better book a land tour. If is no kid / elderly participation, u may consider F&E, I saw alot angmoh rent motorbike around and actually mostly attractions, shopping, night bazaar within 15-20 mins driving.

But if u intend to go chiangrai, then will be a distance trip of abt 187kms or 3.5 hrs journey.

I booked thru Travel Inc at Alexandra during promo is S$249 for 4D3N stay at Le-Meridien + sightseeings + all meals + airport transfer. Kid is S$169. Exclude airfares.

I am keen to bring my kids aged 5 and 6 years old to Chiangmai. Is the elephant ride too dangerous for their age?

I read the Thai Elephant Conservation Center is a better place to visit for elephant camp as is more humanity for the animals as some camps is cruel to the elephant and is heartbreaking to see them canning the animals.

Have anyone been to Thai Elephant Conservation Center ?

Not dangerous but you have to hold them tight. We went when my daughter was 3 yrs old. She sat in between us and we have to hold her tight to prevent her from slipping down. We 1 hand hold chair and another hand hold on her.

Your kids 5 and 6yrs old should be ok since they are bigger and know how to hold the chair.

Hi, thanks, good to hear it! Is the chair tightly tie to the elephant?

We tried the Singapore zoo elephant ride, it was scary for me as the elephant is a tall.
