appreciate if anyone can tell me why it is 2, and not 1 please.

where or which word(s) from the sentence that I shd look out for, or which word gives me the clue that the answer is 2.

At the time when a visit was possible, she did not know. She might know now, we don't know - it is not specified.

The relevant part is that she did not know back then but if she had known, she would have gone (both verbs are in the past and \"had known\" places the knowing part just prior to the visiting). If it helps, sketch a time line.

wouldn’t it be implied or correct to end the correct word with an "S"?
i.e. rhythms ?

Without more context, \"since\" is correct.
You could say, \"since the ind rev, mankind has improved its standard of living but only after child labour laws were introduced.\"

\"Rhythms of the climate\" sounds fine to me (as climate is the result of many different cycles over different time frames).

Lest means \"for fear or in case\". This is the only word that fits in the sentence as others do make sense to fit in. answer given is ‘who’, but I thought it should be ‘whom’ because it refers to the object of the sentence. i.e. the boy.
