I am just wondering… Would the children be given time to check whether the paper has defects or incomplete before they start the exam?

No offence, fanren. Just my opinion. Of course not every kid behaves that way. Some are perfectionist and mostly normal, ok? I am just trying to speak up for that young lady as she may be influenced by her classmates and as some parents may not be aware and find her offensive and brazen. My apologies if my post hurts you.

There was the sweets qn that elder boy could not resolve in the exam hall. He said he spent 20 mins staring at the qn. A few hours later, he solved the qn.
Difficult? Maybe not. But the brain power must be exhausted till cant see the light then.
I heard that year, some Nanyang pupils were crying after the Maths paper. Of course, the next day, newspapers were flooded with parental complaints.
If it is only 1 difficult question....
u wont got such an big outcry fr the public....over TV, radio n newsapapers
Where the media interviewed SMO students... BT IP schs' students...teachers n even a Principal...
I rmb there was a teacher who feedback that even the 2-3 marks questions werent easy....need to think hard before solving....
The reason that nowadays P6 pupils/ parents may find those questions Easy is becos ....
They were already \"being exposed\" or even drilled to do such similar questions,
either in schs or enrichment/ tuition centres....hence, nothing difficult...
But such problem sums certainly appeared unfamiliar to the 2009 batch....
What's more to be solved under constrained exam conditions ??
And not to forget ...the 2009 PSLE batch was the guinea pigs...
the 1st first batch who underwent the new change of the Maths format...[/quote]I agree with Augmum. The 2009 Math paper was a killer. Even students who were very good in Math found it tough. We're talking about MO students and students who score 100% consistently here. And it wasn't just the one question at the end that was difficult. There were a couple of very tricky 2-3 mark questions which threw the students off.
You have to remember the state of mind of these kids when they're attempting the paper in an exam hall. It's very different from doing it in the comfort of your own home or classroom where your results don't matter.
Following the hue and cry of that killer math paper, subsequent PSLE Math papers have not been difficult. Partly bec MOE didn't want a repeat of the outcry that year, and partly bec schools expose the kids to the type of killer Math questions that were first posed in 2009. -

some months ago, I was researching on life coaches. Needed one to counsel ah boy. The initial diagnosis was Asperger's. After a personal meeting, this was ruled out. I also no idea why he sometimes behaves insensitively to his classmates. Been reminding him choice of tone, choice of words, n sometimes, please just shut up

Fanren, in fact I have contact with 3 of different ages and gender. One is a prefectionist so she likes to correct groups’ projects to perfection disregaring friends’ annoyance; another couldn’t get along with classmates in a top secondary school and transferred to another top school, and another is my nephew whom I try to defend. Sorry, just sharing my experience which is NOT representative of the whole crowd, definitely.
