However, yesterday I exploded because he lost 2 marks which I think it is because of carelessness. Careless mistakes are very expensive mistakes now
:grphug: This is a transition period so different people handles it differently. Don't worry. I am sure with your explosion, your ds will be more vigilant in doing his science paper and maybe he can salvage 4 points to more than make up for the 2 points lost and get into his dream school all the same. Give him plenty of love and encouragement tomorrow. He will understand why you flared. :hugs: -

This is really sad. I know of another parent who caned the girl as she scored 98...all because the neighbour kid scored 99... And the kid grew up hating the parent... It's not worth it..
Huh! Yet another one. We are going to be a psychotic society if we don't turn back. We are mortal. Live life well. -

I agree it is a transition. I've calmed down today and I actually told him to chill and no need to study. No point studying hard and he makes careless mistakes. We even went out for lunch and shopping :boogie:

Paiseh, 2 Oct.Sspitfire:
For Oct 3, must non-HMT pupils go to school? Or must they stay at home for that day since PSLE is still on?
HMT is on 2 October.
Thanks for correcting me tho.

phyedw:
If not taking HCL, stay at home on 2oct. 3oct is children's day celebration. 4oct is children's day so no school
Awesome, thanks! -

Que Sera Sera...[/quote]really not easy to parent a teenager nowadays...at least, you found a method to parent your child and it works for you...still can go for lunch n shopping some more...amazing...great job! -
I feel whatever new criteria MOE comes out with, be it more dsa places via sports, or selection based on leadership skills, there’ll still be intense competition. Parents may then send kids for "sports tuition" or you may see centres that have leadership programmes spouting out. There’s just no running away from the fact that many parents will do what it takes to secure a place in a "better" school for their child.

Someone suggested having higher math, higher eng and higher sci in pri school. I thought that was a brilliant idea. The govt can set easier paper for the standard subjects so that parents are happy. Those who want to take higher whatever should not complain if paper is difficult. Parents made their choice and they should live with it. This way all are happy.

But you will only take something more difficult or at a higher level if it comes with certain benefits eg. Higher Chinese gives you 1 to 3 points more.
If the higher EMS are not going to add more points to their t-scores, why would any pupil want to take them and disadvantage or penalise themselves?
On the other hand, if pupils who take higher EMS get to score more points becos of the difficulty level of the papers, then everyone, except those who just want to make it to the express stream or pass psle, will want to take them. -

Yes, there must be a \"reward\" for doing well for higher subjects, as per higher Chinese. So if the child is not competent enough but parents still insist on it, then they have to live with their decision. Parents have to ask if it's worth it to take the higher subjects or concentrate on the standard subjects.
On the other hand, if pupils who take higher EMS get to score more points becos of the difficulty level of the papers, then everyone, except those who just want to make it to the express stream or pass psle, will want to take them.
