      Goodluck8:
My DD does not aim for top school and her only strength is Maths. She cant write a good composition as others as she is not so creative and her oral is poor because she seldom speak most of the time.

Now i need to lower down her expectation and put my finger cross if the result is worse than i thought.

I am not able to sleep well for the past two days. I know i should put it aside but cant.
:snuggles: divert focus to MT and sci. DS is also a careless mistake king. Hope they spotted the careless mistakes while checking the papers. May not be so bad ok? Take care 🙂

If this year PSLE is easy then what’s next in term of secondary schools posting? More pupils will be hopeful to enter top schools thinking that their results are good enough. However, the places in each school are definite. Schools can’t increase the places just because more pupils qualify based on better results. As an illustration, the schools will still set the COP with the objective of taking in top 5%, top 10% etc of the cohort. If this is the case, will the easy PSLE papers cause more disappointment in the end?

Believe next year to avoid such stress, more n more students n parents will head n try dsa option; surplus of candidates to compete for limited places through dsa. This will be next national challenge in future to secure a place in top schools !!!

So those avg students will have fair chance n competition for top schools; once high achievers too confident n made some careless, bump n down it goes. So better make sure no unforgivable n careless mistakes n avoid at all costs!!!

I guess that is the govt way of ensuring average students have a chance to the top schools and that top students are distributed to neighborhood schools

Every school is a 'good' school. Thats what they are trying to convey, i guess

The competition will be so great...it might be overwhelming. I can see why the wide banding in future helps...

How is this possible? If average students meet the COP of top schools wouldn't it mean the top students also qualify for the top schools? So in this case if both apply to the top schools who do you think the system will decide which student is going to top school?

IMO yes. And there might even be balloting & we will have more appeals cos we all hit the COP, why u can get in I can't??

                      PEACE....
I am back. It's a clear cut which group you belong to....and it is clear cut why the parent of the average students want to be near the Top students in results. Needless to say.

Are you speaking for yourself? I think you should not generalise your perception. I seriously do not think 'the parent of the average students want to be near the Top students in results. Needless to say'.

Many of them have 自知之明 and are at peace with their lives and others like myself would like to stay away from the self-declared elites (without inner substance).

Absolutely. It is good to aspire to do great and be just as successful as the top performers. Top students put in a lot of hard work and have good self-discipline to stay at the realm, not just having smart genes and high IQs to stay at the top. Most importantly, these top performers make sure they do well CONSISTENTLY.

If parents of average performing kids want their kids to score as well as or close to the top performers in results, they have to first make sure their kids score well consistently, NOT just in one or two exams. Even if they do score well this time, they won't be able to cope in the long run in a top secondary school if they do not have the right attitude towards learning and fail to perform well consistently.

As parents, we should acknowledge our kids' intrinsic abilities and strive to bring the best out of them by investing time and energy to to encourage their efforts regardless of their success or failures. The key is to let them outperform themselves, not others.

So those who want their average performing kids to achieve results near to top students' are being unrealistic and adding unnecessary stress to their own kids. They are selfish and are nurturing their own passions, not their kids.

With more IP schs, there must be more students with 250+ to get in right? So, easy papers mean more students will get 250+. So for MOE, they are not lowering the COP for IP. It’s a WIN-WIN.
